How do I decide?
Hi Kate,
This has been an interesting post. Lots of people chiming in. If you will allow me my two cents' worth--and I say this in all kindness--hon, you are way overthinking this! The bottom line is this: you either want to be thinner and healthier, or you want to eat. You can't have it both ways.
I had a Coke for breakfast and at least one piece of chocolate every day of my life and look what it got me. Obese, sick, and filled with self-loathing. I made up my mind that I could live my next 55 years without Coke or chocolate. Now, I'm not saying that I never crave a Coke or a piece of candy, but it's a whole lot easier to say NO to those things post-WLS. WLS is a tool, and a good one. But you have to want it. So, the question is, do you want it?
If you do, stop worrying about how you will adjust post-WLS. Believe me, your appetite for food will change drastically. You won't CARE about food the way you do now. It simply won't matter to you anymore. You'll be so much healthier and happier that you'll be glad to stay in compliance. Eating protein, drinking water, daily exercise--it's all just a part of living and not anything to stress over.
Same goes for taking the supplements. Really, it's no big deal--unless you don't do it and get sick. I don't think anything about it anymore. I swallow my pills 3 times a day and it takes maybe 30 seconds each time. Pfft! Nothing to it. It's just a thing you do everyday, like brushing your teeth.
Honestly, your whole mental attitude right now is one of looking for problems. Try to see the possibilities for a better life instead of envisioning the problems you might have. Truly, don't you have a desire to feel better about yourself? I don't think WLS will make you miserable, but only you can answer that question. I think it might help you to read some of the positive stories on OH and try to imagine yourself changing and getting healthier. If you can turn your mental attitude around, I think you will be very happy you decided to have the surgery.
Best of luck! Keep posting here. You will find tons of support.
