Summer Sunday Hello
Good morning Trish and everyone......
Trish....I love stuffed cabbage.....do you put rice in yours? I can't eat rice. Sure sounds delicious!!
Carolyn....WOW what a weekend you are having!!!
Cindi....I need to get back exercising again too. I have been in too much pain and have let it slip.
I am not sure what I am doing today. I was going to go see an Elvis impersonator this evening. My sister is gone for the day and I really feel like just staying home in the quiet. I guess I will wait and see how the day goes.
Wishing you all a happy day!! Prayers for many in need.
Love and hugs to all........connie d

Hi Connie,
Yes, in the meat mixture, I add parboil the rice. I buy meatloaf mix, consisting of ground beef, pork and veal. I mince the onion using the chopper I got from Pampered Chef. I also had fresh ground pepper and salt. Stuffed cabbage, or what my family calls Pigs in the Blanket, or Piggies for short, is very labor intensive because of steaming the core of the cabbage to peel the leaves off the head whole, then shaving the rind portion of the leaf to be able to roll the cabbage once I stuff it. Then, I layer them in the crock pot, and pour crushed tomatoes on top of them, putting some minced garlic on the top of the tomatoes once their poured.
My family loves them.

Doesn't that chopper work well? I love their products. Let me know if you need anything else. Do you want me to send you a fall/winter catalog as soon as they allow us to show it? I now have a website for easy ordering. www.pamperedchef.biz/magpinkerton. it comes up under my full name, Marguerite. Mag
Hi,
Well here I am, emotional, sore, gassy, all the normal stuff. evening of surgery was able to drink 2oz broth and 2oz jell-o, took me a couple of hours. Second day drank 1 1/2 protein shakes and got in about 40oz water. Third day 1st bowel movement which continued on the whole day and night. Fourth day couldn't get a protien shake down until 3pm tried to drink more at around 8pm but wasn't happening. Water has been ok. All the protein shakes, jell-o smell and taste terrible. I've tried soy, lactaid free, mixing with water and I gag. The only thing that sounds good is a scrambled egg. Has any one tried an egg this soon after surgery?

Hi Debbie,
Did you have RNY or band or...? I had RNY. My surgery was at a hospital that only did bariatric surgery. I received a big binder, during pre-op testing, with the guidelines of when certain foods could be eaten. Scrambled eggs were not allowed till the fourth week post-op. The first week was only clear liquids.
What you are experiencing is common. Many people's tastes change post-op. Have you tried Jello? or popsicles?
Be sure to keep walking. I built my distance I walked a little each day. It helps build your strength, and increase your healing.
Take care.
Hugs,
Trish

Things don't taste right anymore as you are now in Ketosis ( burning your own fat, releasing ketones (acetone) into your system. That's the awful metallic taste in your mouth and it is good. You are losing weight and have started this wild ride...relax, enjoy...but don't mess with your food plan, follow your instructions to the letter...
Presuming you had RnY, It takes 3 months for your inner sutures to heal and for your nerve endings to heal and transmit "messages" about fullness,or pain from eating the wrong foods or too fast...Eat too fast, and you will get the sudden " foamies". which is how we throw up..(dry heaves with slimy mucousy stuff). Don't push your luck, you don't want anything stuck in your stoma this early out...

Debbie this too shall pass. Two weeks of liquids are what I was on too. I drank my protein drinks (Boost Glucose Control). I had broth that I thought was awesome and had lots of sugar free fruit bars (Edy's like Popsicles)!!
I wanted eggs but waited. Then I found out I couldn't eat them and got sick every time I tried. I can finally eat them now. It took a couple years to get to that point.
My first soft food was re-flied beans with cheese from Taco Bell. I was in heaven, nothing ever tasted so good!!
You will be fine. Just take your time and listen to your doctor.
It sounds like you are doing great so far!!
Welcome to the Losers Bench!!
