I'm thinking murder!
Our daughter got the proposal from her ex's lawyer. He wants 50/50 custody. But since she has the money she still has to pay him child support. With child support and spousal support he wants $7300 a month for 10 years. She brings home $7000. Her contract has her reinvesting quite a portion of her income back into the company. He also wants a third of her quarterly bonuses for the next 10 years. And every year the child support will be recalculated based on her income. The kids DO NOT want their Dad to have any custody of them. All of these figures are based on a 'formula' based on her income before taxes! Oh, and he gets a lump sum of $600,000.
The person who has the kids over 50% of the time gets to claim them on their taxes. Which will be our daughter, since they don't wanna be with their Dad. The kid's private schools and colleges will be paid for by both of them based on a pro rata basis. Since he has no oncome to pro rate she'll be paying all of that to!
I think she is gonna take her chances before a judge in family court. Formulas must have some exceptions. A judge can listen to the kids, their counselors and maybe even his doctors. There has been 20 years of mental, verbal and emotional abuse. That has to count for something!
Our grandson has a job, a car and his license. Our granddaughter has a job and will have her license in December. So I'm thinking, even if they are supposed to be with their Dad they will be someplace else. Or they will all be living in their cars!
OK, I'm gonna try to go to bed. I wish she hadn't told me this til tomorrow. There is no way I can sleep now!!

I hope you got some sleep last night. I know how hard it would be to sleep after learning all of that. I'd want to strangle the SOB myself. This is one of those trust the Lord to work things out justly and fairly. He knows all truth in this matter, and He will make sure that your daughter's ex reaps what he sows. Hopefully, you and your daughter will be there when he gets what is coming to him.
It's a shame that all divorces couldn't be as amicable as my ex and mine. We were both earning about the same amount of money. We divorced with no credit card bills. He gave me my choice of student loan debt for our kids, which was about equal. He gave me my choice of furniture, and car. He was leaving me, so he left those decisions up to me. He had more in his 403B retirement, so I got half of that. I could not say one thing negative about his offer, except that I didn't want the stuff, I wanted him. That was just not meant to be.

Trish. You are absolutely right. I have to trust in the Lord. I KNOW that whatever is right, he will make it happen. It's just so hard, she is my baby!
My sister's divorce 10 years ago or so, was also very amicable. It was a joint decision. No one fought about anything. He moved to FL. For years when he would go to NY in the summer to visit old friends he would stay with Sis and her new hubby. Seemed weird to me!

Hope you were able to get some rest. My brother has been divorced three times and also left a woman who was his common law wife. All of his two of the four divorces ended up in court due to unreasonable demands from the wife.
Keep in mind that the child support will only last until the kids are 18 same with custody.

Well the lawyer says after kids turn 18 child support goes to kid, and has to be paid as long as kid is in college.
This is his first salvo, so I guess there is room for him to come down.
I really don't wanna kill him. I wish he will accept reasonable settlement move on and find happiness. .if he can be happy away from her it will be better for adults and children.

I agree with your daughter and believe that lawyers will ask for the moon knowing that the client will/should get much less.
As Ann Landers used to say, he needs to "wake up and smell the coffee". He's not going to get what he wants, and I hope that his abusive behaviour during their marriage will impact the end result of the divorce.
