Welcome Debbie!  I'm 55 and just over a year out from surgery.  Just hang in there and this time next year, you will be near or at your goal of losing 100 pounds.  Just think how great it will be to wear shorts and tank tops next summer!

In the meantime, do try to take a pillow with you.  I had my surgery in Houston and had a 3 hour car ride home.  The pillow just helped me so much.  You will also need to get up and walk every 30 minutes or so to avoid getting blood clots in your legs.  I'm sure your surgeon will explain it all to you.

Keep posting daily.  This is the greatest bunch of women on the web.  I don't know how I would have made it without them!  We will help you through it.  No question or problem too thorny for this bunch to handle.

Welcome Debbie! I have just started my journey and am not scheduled yet but hope to be sooner rather than later. Best wishes on your surgery and make sure you are getting up during that plane trip so you can keep the blood moving and avoid clotting. keep us updated!

Thanks Diane, I just learned I will be on blood thinners and was also told that the doctor was going to do a pain block. So hopefully the plane ride home won't be so bad. I'm not new to surgery...I've had exploratory, c-section, gallbladder, uterine ablation, and back surgery so I think I have an idea, but it could be worse than all of them. I know we all tolerate pain differently, I'm hoping my pain tolerance is high. But I will make sure I walk every 20-30 mins and from what I've learned, sip, sip, sip, oh and bring a pillow that is a must.
