Oh Mag I wish there was something I could do to help you! My Sis is bipolar. She quite often has to have her meds tweeked! She sees her medication manager monthly. Her DH has learned to catch the signs of a big mood swing before it really gets too bad and he gets her to her doctor!!
I worry about you being alone!! I hope things improve quickly so you can 'feel' the music again real soon!
It really angers me when someone tells my Sister she just needs to 'get it together' and she'll be fine. Sometimes she can't get it together without some major help. I am still waiting to hear when her heart surgery will be so I can drive up to be there for her recovery. But last time I spoke with her she was major depressed and sounding suicidal again. As soon as I got off the phone with her I called her DH on his cell. Last time that happened I called him and he was able to get her to the hosp. in time to get her stomach pumped.
You are ever in my prayers Mag.

Carolyn,
Thanks for your love and caring. It means so much to me. So far I have kept the "S" word on the back burner. Doubling the med dose this week. Darren thinks this is the right drug for me and doesn't want to give up on it yet. He thinks the best thing for me is to keep dog sitting where I have to do the things necessary for the animals. Hope he is right.    As ever,   Mag

How do you make protein oatmeal?

There are several  ways:

1) Easiest, since you live like me in Ontario, is to buy Protilife Maple Brown Sugar instant protein oatmeal, used to be available at Shoppers Drug Mart, but no more, so I buy from www.Well.ca, the online drugstore with free delivery (no minimum order required).  They sell it a few cents cheaper than Shopper's did anyway plus they throw in free delivery to your home by Canada Post. There are 5 single serve pouches per box( 49 gms each) so I make them last 7 days by using a little less every day and leave enough for the other 2 days a week. It's made in St. Eustache ( Quebec, norwest of Montreal) and also sells under the Protidiet name at various US online stores such as DietDirect.com although made in Ste. Eustache in Quebec, Canada. Costs  C$10.69  a box with 5 portions at Well.ca.

2) You can get the same stuff  (Maple Brown Sugar but also Apple Cinnamon, etc)  which used to be called Protidiet, but now gets fancy boxes with Dr. Bernstein's labeling at any Dr. Bernstein franchise, but be prepared to pay more for it  per box...I was first introduced to this stuff when I lost weight at his expensive clinic(s) ages before my WLS...smaller portions are packaged 7 envelopes to a box at his clinics ( 25 gms per single serve envelope). Not sure what he sells it for now, was $16 - per box/7 small servings, about 2-3 years ago.

I learned to team up with 8 strawberries when on the DR. B diet...and developed a liking to this instant oatmeal made with ho****er, (but I first make into a paste with about 1/4cup cold 1% milk as mixes less lumpy than when just ho****er added and tastes better than just plain ho****er, but when traveling is a perfect portable breakfast to make in a hotelroom with coffee maker heating up the water and then I add some powdered creamer to make it smoother), so I continue to use now post WLS with 1 fruit portion in the morning ( half a banana, a diced apple, raspberries, blueberries, mango, kiwi, diced pear, whatever I have about to go off)

Since the protein in Protilife/Protidiet (whatever name it goes by) is mainly derived from Soy protein and not the best for us WLS types, I add a tablespoon of my vanilla protein powder ( which I use for my protein smoothies made with 1% milk and frozen fruit chunks like strawberries or mango cubes, but that's another story) derived from milk whey, supposed to be  much better for us!

3) You can buy commercial instant protein  which also comes in huge single serve pouches ( Quaker Oats or President's Choice, etc) and make your own instant oatmeal fortified by 1-2 spoonfuls of milk whey protein powder..add some fruit and you have a good breakfast.

My hubby and I share a double house with my Mom since we retired. Mom and I went to church this morning. It is very hot here. The church was quite warm but we sat close to the front where there was a fan going.
After a nice service I invited Mom in for Breakfast. After she went home. I too took on the task of cleaning out the frig. Both washing all the shelves and throwing out some of the condiments that had been in there some time.  We spent a lazy afternoon and then I started sorting out fabric.

I am a quilter and I have been rearranging my sewing room and sorting through my fabric collection. If I don't love it I am  I am donating it to one of the two groups in our guild who make quilts for charities.

My Mom went out for dinner with one of her girlfriends tonight (sunday is the night we usually eat together as a family) so hubby and I were on our own. Tonight is Mystery on PBS and it is a new episode of Inspector Lewis.

A pretty boring day. hubby is watching his beloved BlueJay and Yankees this afternoon.
My darling Shadow is resting on the floor between walks and meals.

Hope you all make it through the day okay. Prayers to all of you my new friends.

Thanks everyone who posted.  I was wishing everyone might  have a really "serene" day but for some it has been anything but! Judy has had a very turbulent day! Mag has had a medically induced personal hell hopefully to be resolved soon with meds tweaking.  Eileen has spotted more allergy bumps on Juliette which means another visit to the vet for another injection or further diagnosis...and on it goes!

I say my day has been fairly serene, but have spent several hours online looking at washer dryer combos or stackable singles for small spaces ( my washer dryer have their own closet space with vent and taps and drain, the catch is to fit appliances into the space; right now I have an all-in-one stacked unit). The dryer has been making intermittent screeching noises for weeks, and now today  noise is pretty constant, and the washer leaks intermittently drop-by-drop  into the drum so the valve is going...The unit is dated 1995 and lifecycle is supposed to be 15-18 years so not worth getting a repairman in as something else may go .  The bad thing with an "all in one", is if the washer goes on the fritz and needs replacing, you have to get rid of the working dryer too as cannot be separated....But BOTH are going on the fritz  after 17 years and not worth repairing because too old..I checked online and the dryer screeching is really bad news! Spare parts could be hard to get as the unit is considered ancient and at end of life!

I can get a Kenmore stacked all in one unit again from Sears, or for almost double the price get 2 appliances, 24" wide units, dryer stacked on top of matching washer. Both are modern front loaders.  Been looking at dimensions online and measuring my space, frickin taps with special emergency shut-off valves (mandated by the condo board) are chewing up a couple of inches of the possible width and depth as they are on the inside side wall, towards the back...Tomorrow I go off to appliance stores with my measuring tape and notes I made today.  Always some crisis happening  to help you spend your money.  Suspect I will have to buy another dishwasher soon  although not leaking yet, now the soap dispenser cover won't flip open anymore and the door hinge spring has given up again  so door once again hits the floor when you open it unless you hold it, after being repaired professionally last summer.  It also dates from around 1995, so due for a changeout.  (never just rains bad luck,  it pours! But then all the appliances were bought at the same time years ago so to be expected).

Good evening OFF family, just bringing up the rear once again.

Went to church today, then came home and watered my vegetable garden and plants/flowers. In this heat they are doing fine as long as I water!
Tried to take a nap b/4 going to work on the 3-11 shift but that was a no go! LOL
Now I just have to go directly to bed when I get home cuz tomorrow is another double shift for me.

We are having a pot luck tomorrow for the charge nurse's birthday and she is going to retire in March. She is a lovely person who I really admire and respect.

Eileen...fast healing for your knee surgery and I hope you can find a friend to come and check on you. But you are a strong woman who can take care of herself too! Feel the power you have!

Judy, hope things settle down for your tenants soon. Whew! you have been through a few tough spots lately. I'm sending your rainbows and flowers my friend...right now in my mind!

Mag, hang in there with your depression, it's tough to fight and sometimes you just feel like you can't reach out from the bottom of the deep dark pit. When you find the right medication you will feel so much better. It's amazing how our patients respond when they get the right meds. That's easier to do when you are on the Behavioral Unit as a patient. You are monitored and meds are adjusted. I love this unit I'm working on and see how much we make a difference in people's lives. Depression is nothing to poo-poo about and I understand what your saying. Hang in there and yes keep praying for yourself and maybe soon you will feel the music once again.
