Jo,

It is simply an amazing thing to realize that many one day at a times can be put together and to know that there are some who can see that life can be lived fully without the use of drugs and alcohol is what I hope to express, because in my area, I am seeing many people who have had WLS become alcoholics. . .  it is sad, but we are people with addictive personalities

Thanks for your support and kind words    .

Laureen,
I am so impressed that you got it the first time, and have grown and learned so much in your sobriety.  You are proof that the 12 Steps work, and are life changing.  Thank you for being such a great role model to me.  I came in 23 years ago, and was not honest, open-minded or willing to do the work.  I am grateful for what I have this time, because I have been relieved of the obsession to drink, thanks to surrendering in rehab 2 and a half years ago.  Your example was one I had in the back of my mind as I came out of relapse.  You gave me hope.  My sponsor came into AA the same month I did, and stayed sober.  She also gave me hope in those early days.  You two still give me hope.

Thank you for being a part of my life.

Hugs,
Trish

Trish,

I don't "got it", if I've learned anything in the time I have behind me, is that I am an arms length from my next debacle and I truly am humbled by the gifts I've received.  I know you understand when I say, my alcoholic brain is still wired in a way that I need to do the work on a regular basis because within short order I get "crazy thoughts".. .  They used to say, be kind to the newcomer, because they may one day be your sponsor. . .  What I am happy about is seeing you doing so much better and that is a testament to the 12 Steps at work in your life. . .  perhaps one day we can make a meeting together. ..

Hugs and thank you for your kind words!

Laureen

Laureen..you are such a courageous and strong woman to have been so tenacious and determined to be the best that you CAN be! Sincere congratulations to you! Your journey is far from easy but you prove daily how determined and clear-focussed that you are! Whether our drug of choice is alcohol, drugs, food, shopping, sex or other issues, you are in control, not the issue!

Your commitment and courage will keep you strong..you deserve serious kidos! *hugs*

Nancy,

What I've learned is I have a choice, I can choose to live or I can choose to die slowly, alone and without joy.  As we well know life is a precious gift and we need to live it fully engaged and today, I choose to use all the senses I have been gifted with and not go through the motions of living.

Thank you, you are, as I often have said, all the things you've said about me.

Hugs, Laureen

Dear Laureen,
You are a mentor, a teacher to many!
I admire you and indeed you are one of the most honest people I have met on line.

Like you I fight my food addictions and always will.
Reading your reflections, I was able to come to understand my father who died at age 52, he too went to AA, got his life together and became a counselor to many in San Diego. I didn't get to know this lovely man who came to God and who helped many with alcohol and drug addictions. My dad died carrying a can of paint up the stairs to paint the mission he worked for, he had a massive heart attack. The calls I got from the people who were residents at the mission told me what a wonderful dad I had. I kept all the letter these people wrote to me about dad. They helped me heal.

So my dear Laureen, you make a BIG difference in a lot of people's live. You are real. You understand. You don't judge, you give encouragement. Thank you for sharing.
YOU are loved and appreciated and truly God's servant! Hugs Debbie

Debbie,

I thank you for all your kind words and encouragement and I am glad that some of what I've shared helped you come to understand your father's journey and my daughters have had a lot of the benefits of my recovery.

All that I am is a byproduct of what I have become grounded in, the principles in 12 Step Recovery are really wonderful to help get through daily living. . .

Thank you again.  Today is just another day and I think I shall make the choice not to drink, just for today!!!

Hugs, Laureen
