Any regrets???
Hello Mary,
Like Connie, I regret now having had this surgery sooner. The only regret I have now is that I have not yet reached goal weight because I had a regain during my alcohollc relapse.
I have only heard of one regret in all of my years post-op. That one is someone who has had some complications. I have been active here, and that was on my PA forum.
God bless.
Huges,
Trish

Seek always to do some good, somewhere. Every man has to seek in his own way to realize his true worth. You must give some time to your fellow man. For remember, you don't live in a world all your own. Your brothers are here too.

Mary,
Like those before me, I have no regrets and truthfully, for me I feel I had it at the right time, I think the main component that we have to change is our relationship to food and WLS helps by giving us a window in which pretty much without a whole lot of effort, if we comply with the rules we are given by our surgeons, we will lose the weight, but there is life beyond that point and where the changes we make during the actual losing of weight, in other words, the maintenance phase, where we have to behave differently then in the past, or we will gain weight back. I am someone who has had a moderate weight gain, but I know what I need to do differently and I strive to do that daily. Making healthy choices, getting some regular form of exercise in, drinking enough decaffienated fluids, taking my vitamins, calcium supplements. . . it's all good, but make no mistake about it, it is NOT easy, but life becomes limited only by the choices we make. So go for it and live a richer and fuller life!

My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . . It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . . Laureen

No regrets and I'm a revision so I've been at his for what seems my entire life.
In my early 20's I had a gastroplasty (stomach stapling) and of course that was a failure, not just with me but with every one in my study group.
I'm a revision to RNY and I don't regret anything.
Surgeries have improved, more studies are being made.
Better support groups.
Still...know what?
I'm not going to lie to you. Surgery will not keep you thin. You will. So what's your plan?
What is going to replace your eating? You will have a void.
Exercise was my replacement for eating.
Later on after your surgery your body adjusts. More calories will be absorbed but you will always have to take vitamins for the rest of your life. You should exercise and hopefully find a work out buddy so it will be fun. Find something you are passionate about too. Life will be so much more full filled if you follow the rules but ya know what...some of us push those rules.
Transfer addictions is so real for all of us. Alcohol, shopping, exercise, not eating right and some people are anorexic or play games with themselves like eating and throwing up, taking excessive laxatives...you just have to be the best you can be. Do research, find the right WLS surgery for you and go for it! WLS is not an easy way out nor is our life we lead after WLS. We have to stay on top of our health, get our labs done on a regular basis, find excellent docs to take care of us and support our lifestyle change. Good luck Mary, keep posting and you will find lots of support here.
My life is so much better, I'm no longer over 300 pounds, I am currently trying to get some regain off b/c I haven't been exercising like I use to since my emergency small bowel surgery due to adhesion's. Damn adhesion's, my body just makes them like some people get kidney stones.
My weight will come off in time, it's not a race and until then I get lots of support here and with my friends and family.

Wow, Debbiejean, I can't tell you how much I appreciate your honesty. I have been researching how I'm going to handle the food addiction and reaidng about the transfer issue. I hope mine is exercise too. That is at least healthy and will help me stay thin. I have my psych evaluation on Aug 2 and if the person seems knowledgeable, I think I need some therapy beyond the initial appt. I need to explore how and why I got to be almost 300 lbs and why I stopped living my life--beyond the physical limitations. If that person is not a good fit, I will look for someone else. I know I have work to do not only on my body but also on my head. I really like you being black and white about things. Also, congrats on your success even if you had a bit of a regain---you are aware of it and will stop it before it gets out of hand. Sorry about your adhesions. That's terrible.
