Good mornin' ya'll.
My grandson finally got home to OR yesterday after spending the night in the PHX airport. By now he has experienced almost everything that can go wrong with a flight.
Today I am gonna try a corn soup recipe I found. It has leeks in it and only makes 2 servings. So if we don't like it, I'm not stuck with a bunch.
Still working on a blue and white striped afghan in the living room during the day, and putting borders on fleece baby blankies in the family room in the evening.
My iPad will read a book to me, but only a page at a time. But that's better then nuttin'! So I can 'read' and crochet at the same time. I like Rhonda Byrnes books.
Of course, I will continue to do the doggie dance all day... out and in, out and in. When I put them out I have to lock the door 'cause the big one can reach up and pull the door handle down to let them all in. So I'm gettin' up to shut the door anyway. This time our DIL brought a ball chucker for the big one. She whines at the spot I keep it always trying to get me to go chuck the ball for her. I do it three times a day. That's enough in this heat!
Soooo, off to the kitchen.
Everyone have a fantabulous day!

Good morning Grammylew and everyone who will follow. It was a busy weekend but Monday is here and I'm "childless"! Baby girl is home with Momma and Daddy and baby sister. My daughter is amazing-she had that baby and 6 hours later they were home! We kept big sister one extra night and day and then they were all ready to be back together. I'll be going over to help out, but not so much this week because Daddy will be home all week. I'll be busy enough anyway, school starts again today (I'm working on my Advanced Paralegal Certificate), so between that, hubby, and getting the house ready for my up-coming surgery I've got a lot going on.

Everyone have a great day and try to stay cool!

Good morning Carolyn and Judy!

Busy day ahead for me.  Got StoryTime at the library this morning.  I took the weekend "off", so I have housework and laundry waiting for me when we get back.  Fun.

Yesterday was Benny's 2nd birthday!  We're waiting to have his real party after Papaw gets home, but Chris and I took him to the water park yesterday for a swim and a picnic.  Oh, he had the best time.  Pics on FB if you want to see.  (Judy, do you do FB?  Lots of us post pics there.  Easier than posting on OH.  Just friend me.  I'm Vickie Gibson Poe.)

We never heard a word from Benny's dad or other grandparents all day yesterday, but this morning, Chris found a message from John on her phone.  He waited until 9:30 p.m. to call!  He ought to know that that child is asleep before then.  A very pitiful message, too.  Like we tried to keep Benny from him all day.  He's never once asked to see Benny or even called to check on him.  Jerk.

My dryer here at the lake house is just about dead.  It will only run for 5 or 10 minutes at a time before it shuts off!  Grrrr!  It does heat up, but you have to keep running back to turn it on again and again.  I really did want to wait to buy new appliances for this house, but I think the handwriting is on the wall.  Maybe Butch can fix it one more time and we can get another couple of months out of it.

Grammy, my little PK loves the chukka stick too!  She wants to play ball all day long.  But you're right--it's hard to play ball in this heat!

I have a great recipe for a shrimp and potato soup, but you can substitute corn for the shrimp to make an all vegetable version of it.  Both are just fabulous, but very rich.  You want the recipe?

I've got another recipe I've been meaning to post for "jellies".  I've been making them for Benny, but I can't stay out of them.  Still, I think you could make them using all sugar-free ingredients.  I just don't like to use artificial sweetners for Benny.  Gives him diarhhea, so I make his treats using real sugar, only I cut it in half.

If I get a chance, I'll post some recipes soon.  Got a new recipe for homemade blueberry ice cream sandwiches that we're going to try for his birthday next week.  Sounds delish! Since we're waiting until the 4th to have his birthday, we're going to try all red, white and blue foods!  Strawberry cake, blueberry ice cream, etc.

Well, I need to scoot.  Story time waits for no man!

Love you all!

 Hi Vickie,
I would love a recipe for strawberry jam.  I have made it with Splenda in the past, with no problems.  I was thinking of trying it again.

Glad your day with Benny was so good yesterday.  That is awesome.

Hugs,
Trish

Hey Trish,

Sorry for the confusion!  "Jellies" are not jam; they're a gummy bear type of candy made from fruit juice and gelatin.  SO yummy!  I'll post the recipe as soon as Benny Bop lets me have some time.

I've never had much luck making jelly/jam with splenda.  I've made tons of jellies and jams over my lifetime, but the only ones that ever turn out properly are the ones I make with real sugar.  But I know they make a special pectin for low sugar/no sugar jam.  Be sure and buy the right kind.

How did your yogurt turn out?

 Hi Vickie,
I'd like to give the "Jellies" a try for my Munchkins in Michigan.  The ones you get in the stores have all those additives, and my Munchkins love them a great deal.  I think they think they are candy.  My daughter is trying to go organic, so I would make them with organic grape juice.

I know about the special pectin for no sugar jams.  I have only made freezer jam, but it was okay.

My yogurt needs tweaking.  It's not as thick as I'd prefer, and I can't get it smooth yet, but it tastes great.  Makes a terrific protein smoothy, with berries and flavorless protein powder.  It has the active yogurt cultures, which I need with all the antibiotics I get put on these days.  Thanks for asking.  It's worth trying, because the only ingredients are milk, vanilla and splenda.  Unless you like it plain, then it's just milk.  The only equipment you need is a pot, thermometer and canning jars.  I bought pint jars, because I only make a half gallon for now.  I give one of the pints to a gal from church who is struggling financially, and she loves it.  When I perfect it, I may get more jars, and share it with others.  That's how I learned about it.  A friend of my daughter's gives her a quart regularly.

Hugs,
Trish

Vickie, I'd love to have any recipes you wanna post. My corn soup was oh so delicious. I had half a portion, my DH had 1 1/2. Even that just felt like way too much. I didn't put the bacon on the top. I didn't think it added enough to justify the fat and calories. My DH, of course, had plenty of the bacon!

 Hi Grammy,
I am posting late, because I am just getting on the computer.    My surgery went well.  The pain was inevitable, but when I got home, I got it under control.

God was so good to me.  I did my breathing exercises and barely felt the IV going in.

Utley and I are watching the Phillies beat the Pirates.

God bless everyone.

Hugs,
Trish
