Prayer request
Will you please put my cousin's husband on your prayer list. Dan and Marlene drove their new RV to FL to visit his kids some months ago. While there, he had a heart attack. He was treated and after a lengthy stay, doctors said he was OK to travel. Her son had flown down and was able to drive the RV and head for home. They got as far as Nashville and Dan had another heart attack. They did a by-pass and he was in the hospital there for quite awhile. By then all his kids were there, too. Her son drove the RV with everyone back to their home. Dan was put into a rehab facility. He has been there since and is declining daily. Marlene has basically been living at the facility. Even when her and/or his kids are there, she won't leave him for long.
Medical bills have wiped out all of their savings. The house will have to be sold. How can this happen?
This is a love story that started for both of them in their later years. Both had spouses who had died a few years before they met at church. And they were both so happy that God had given them each a second chance at love. Their kids were also grateful that their parents had found someone to spend the rest of their lives with. Please just pray that God's will be done, and give Marlene strength to cope with whatever plans he has for them.
This is not the time to get on my soap box, but medical bills should NOT have to lead to bankruptcy!! And I don't think the government's new medical insurance plan will stop it.

I'm praying, Caroline. I hope things work out according to God's plan. Praying for strength for all the family.

Seek always to do some good, somewhere. Every man has to seek in his own way to realize his true worth. You must give some time to your fellow man. For remember, you don't live in a world all your own. Your brothers are here too.

Grammylew, prayers being said right now for your cousin's husband!
Now, I have worked in the hospital since I was 16 years old, and times sure has changed.
Here's some advice: tell your family to contact the hospital finance counselor. Most hospitals give some "charity care" and they write it off. This is just the middle of the year so the hospitals should still have some money in their charity areas. Also it's a law that no hospital can refuse treatment due to not having insurance, they are suppose to work with you.
Tell them if there is no finance person available that you want to talk to their Billing coordinator. Asking for help is very humbling but if they say no at least they asked.
I agree, no one should lose their home and savings due to illness.

Definitely heart-breaking for that family!
As a Canadian, I am biting my tongue about the American way of health care, sorry. Have seen this happen to American friends far too often, it just is NOT RIGHT at all!
However, I am sending many prayers and loving, healing positive thoughts and energy for courage, strength and comfort for all involved.
