New on boards...had wls 4 yrs ago
When I need to get back on track, I go back to the diet plan I had post-op, and increase my exercise. I keep protein snacks in the house, like cheese sticks, and yogurt. I make sure I get my water in.
Hope you will stick around.

Welcome to OFF, there are a few of us who've gotten lost along the way, one of the ways I stay on track is by planning, as much as possible, my day (foodwise) and activity wise. . . I do a post daily during the week, please feel free to jump on board to log your choices, it's an accountability thing, as well as a way to show the newer people how it can be done as we progress on this life long journey of ours.
Have a great day!!!
Laureen
My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . . It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . . Laureen

I agree with Laureen. Accountability is a plus!! I had gained 30 pounds. I went back to Basics. I have lost 20 so far. I am trying to lose slow so I don't regain again! I watch portion sizes and use small dishes. Eat slowly putting down my fork between every bite. I always be sure I get in the right amount of protein then a small amount of veggies. I have fruit for snacks and occasionally string cheese. I also eat very healthy salads and use light vinaigrette dressing. I have never been able to tolerate bread, pasta, rice, and very little potato. That in it's self is a Blessing!! Please do join us on Laureen's thread as well as this one.
We love hearing from new people. Hope you enjoy it here as much as we do!!

I'm six years out and did have a regain at one point of about 20 lbs. I'm 5'11" tall and weighed 325 at my highest and around 160 as a reasonable goal weight. I went up to 178 at one time, and just decided to limit my snacks to good stuff, nuts, huumus, veggies, yogurt, cheese and protein drinks....and the extra weight came off easily and has stayed off. Today I weighed 156.....probably too low but so nice to have that problem instead of asking for seat extender in airplane!!
You will do great. The wonderful women in here will give you so much TLC........good luck!!

Hey Karen,
I, too, love huumus and make it about twice a week. I make it from dried chick peas and then I add my own spices and use celery as my dipping stick. I also make refried beans and keep them for a snack too. I had to quick the yogurt because they made me so sick. I am a fan of eating nuts as well. Nice to see you posting again.
I have several pieces of advice:
1) journal everything you take in by mouth
2) measure everything you eat.
3) Use the smallest plate you can find. I put all of my food on a small saucer, the kind that we use with cups. I put no more than three ounces of meat and two green vegetables or one yellow vegetable. In my small plate, I usually can fit three ounces of meat and 1/4 cup each of my two green vegetables, or 1/2 cup of yellow vegetables. I never eat white vegetables or bread. The no eating of white vegetables and bread is new and relates to my DH diabetes, so since he cannot eat them, neither do I.
4) purge your house of junk food: no glidder food. Keep celery, carrots, and cauliflower cleaned and ready to munch on.
5) Plan your meals and your snacks.
6) Exercise. I run/walk every other day; yoga every day; dance twice a week.
7) Look for ways to increase your exercise: park as far away from the store doors as possible, take the stairs, clean your own house, do your own yard work, weekly, go to the park or find hiking trails and move. 8) Find a mantra and put it somewhere so you can read it often…I have Never Again written on my desk at work, in my car, in my office at home, and it will soon be tattooed on my wrist: I will never be obese again.
8) My final piece of advice is do special activities that reinforce healthy activities: I give myself weekly facials in which I do the facial mask, scrub, and hydration. I also do feet treatments every other night. These activities reinforce your worth. I am wrothy of having a healthy and happy life.
I hoep these help. My last bit of advice is avoid fast food both as take out and at home. Cook every thing and when you do eat out, make it special and spend a little money so you can order your food. Never, never eat at buffets.
Hope this works for you.
