Candy????

So, last Monday, we had our annual awards thingy, and I got an award.  It wasn't a big deal, but apparently, to others it was a big deal.  So, Friday, this guy who teaches at our university came into my office and brought me a really expensive box of candy and a really nice card.  Okay, I noticed he was a little nervous acting, but I thought it was because he was shyish.  One of my student workers said, is it me, or is this guy like hitting on you?  I said, no way.   He said, well, he brings you candy and card; I say, but it was to congratulate me; he says, well, he brought you fresh fruit the other day; I say, fruit does not an admirer make; he says, but he is always coming by here.   Finally, I started thinking about it and since my husband nor I can eat candy, I gave it to my student workers.  But, I've really been thinking about this guy, so today, he drops in and brings me a huge cup of coffee.   I realized I needed to do the how sweet but I am married routine.   He said, well, that's nice that you're married, I am too.  I said, so you are not making like advances to me.  He said, nope.  I just like your company and thought it would be nice to bring you coffee and the candy was for congratulations and the fruit was because they say you love fruit.  Talk about feeling like a fool.  I was so embarrassed and when he left and my student worker came in, I say, well, I listened to you and confronted the nice professor and he was being nice and not hitting on me.  Student worker says, he can call it whatever he wants, but no one brings gifts to someone of the opposite or even same sex unless he or she has an alterior motive.  I said, dude you are cynical.  He said, nope, I know men.   

These kids today think that no one can do a good deed without an alterior motive.   Oh sad.
