DH's Corneal Transplant
Let me preface this post by saying my old cat, Ginger Pie, is sitting next to me and ate some sweet potatoes and is so gassey I think I need a gas mask. Sadly, she puts her ears back, toots, then she sniffs the air, and looks at me and does this kind of accusatory meow. The other cats fuss at her for her awful gass and her inability to clean her own tush, but it does no good; she still farts and still refuses to participate in her daily hygiene needs. Sigh. I give her a daily bubble bath and in between her daily baths, I baby wipe her butt. The vet said if I let her go and just spray her butt with water, she will start cleaning it herself…ha, she will just walk around with a wet butt. So, I keep her clean.
Well, my daughter took Kenny to the transplant surgeon on Friday. I was so afraid that they were going to tell him that the corneal had died. But, much to our surprise, the transplant attached and the thing does live. The doctor took the stitiches out, and put some drops in and cut the steroid eye drops back to four times a day, and said, it looks better than any that he has done at this early stage. He expects DH to make a 100% visual recovery and has put him at the top of the list for his left eye. We were all shocked, because DH could not see a thing out of that eye, but today, he says he is seeing better than his vision in his left eye…which isn't saying a lot but it is better than seeing nothing.
And, his blood sugar is staying down, so next week, we can start reducing his insuling to see if we can get him off of that shot.
So, it is on to the next phase of this awful process…regaining vision, getting another cornea, and hopefully, having a hell of a summer.
This is such wonderful news!! I am so pleased to hear this..after all that you have both been through and also a precious gift from another not gone to waste *s*
Jeannie..I have always enjoyed your sense of humour and your story about the gassy cat made me laugh out loud. My life is filled with all things feline.
Congrats to you and hubby!

I am so happy for your husband. That is wonderful news, both the cornea and the insuline change.
I loved the story about your gassy cat and its poor hygiene. You are a good cat parent.

Glad that hubby's transplant took and that in time his eyesight will be restored!!! As for Ginger Pie, my Foxie Roxie has her bouts with gas and OMG it makes me laugh most of the time, because she will lift her head sniff the air and then look at me, like, yeah, what makes you so special. . . our fur children sure can give us the gift of laughter. . .
Have a great day!
