Anemia and B12 deficiency
Hi there,
I get B12 shots monthly, at my primary doctor's office. Been doing that since 3 months post-op. My hematologist also does my blood counts every three months, and sometimes I get IV iron infusions. I also take iron supplements, but if it is a malabsorption problem, then the iron, or B12 has to get in there another way. I need to get more of the sublingual B12, because even with the monthly shots, I still need more. I am usually at a low normal level.
Nutritinon wise, red meats are good sources for both iron and B12. Of course, liver is an excellent source of iron, if you can stomach.
Good luck.
Hugs,
Trish

Thank you guys!
I'm going to ask for the iron infusion and the B12 shots, at least until the numbers go up. I'm feeling very rundown and it turns out the body aches can also be attributed to the anemia.
Need to get back to normal and stay normal in preparation for the tummy tuck.
Have a blessed day.

Hi Eileen
Thanks for the info. I take 45 mgs of iron with 1000 mgs of vitamin C twice a day. Also found out that I needed to avoid not only calcium supplements within 2 hours of taking the Iron/VitC, but also calcium rich foods, such as dairy. It gets sort of tricky timing everything.
My PCP just called me a few minutes ago to make sure I had made an appointment with the hematologist. She says the hematologist will probably give me an IV iron infusion and B-12 shots.
