Sleepy Saturday What's Up?

Today was supposed to be my day to do absolutely nothing…well, nothing that required getting out of my pjs.  But, my dh and I bought my grandson, Mathew, a new captains bed and my daughter called to say they had delivered it and that Mathew loved it.  Then my granddaughter got on the phone and said, Nana, I sure wish I could come up to your house and spend the weekend.  I tried to negotiate another weekend and finally said, we will be there in a bit.  So, now I have Baby Girl and Mathew.

The good news is that I interviewed folks who wanted the little puppy--he is such a cutie pie and so sweet and so small.  I finally gave him to our Dean's executive secretary and her hubby, who is a cop, and their twin eight year old girls.  The woman sent me an email and said their other small dog and the puppy have hit it off and she, her hubby, and their girls all fight over who is going to hold the puppy.  They got him to the vet and the vet said in spite of his being mal nourished, it looked like he had some excellent care over the last couple of days and that made me feel good.  Her vet and mine are in the same clinic so he had the puppy's chart and said he had gained two ounces, which for a puppy is a lot.  So, I am happy that it ended so well and the puppy will be taken care of and in a stable home until he grows old and dies.

Back to my weekend.  I guess I will get up and get the house picked up.  I also will need to go buy groceries since the kids like snacks that I dont keep here like chips and cookies.  So, a busy weekend but next weekend will be me, myself, and the girls…well and DH.

Hope you all have a great day

I just love this forum in so many ways! We all have experience with just about everything. My nephew uses a Netipot. He has chronic sinus issues. Whenever I have a sore throat my "go to" remedy is salted ice chips and it helps more than anything. The hot tub helped a lot this morning. It doesn't hurt but I had almost no voice yesterday. It's much better today and I'll be as quiet as possible today which is very tough for me! My daughter would squirt a saline solution in her babies noses when they were conjested and then "snarf" it out with a bulb syringe. About makes me upchuck to think about it, but I think I can handle the Netipot or what Trish was talking about.  Thanks so much everyone! What a wealth of information from all of us "seasoned just right" ladies. . . By the way we haven't seen anything of the very few men that used to visit with us. Did we run them off or just bore them to retreating to the sunset? I'm making some hot tea with honey in it. Thanks again everyone! Just remembered when the twins were little and had bad colds Erin would squirt a saline solution up their nostrils and then "snarf " it out with a bulb syringe. Worked like a charm. Same idea I'm sure. I'll stop by a drug store today and see what I can find.

***Geeze there is really too much gunk in my head.  Thought I hadn't mentioned Erin and the saline solution and I had already written it about 5 minute earlier. I guess my brain is squished by all the junk!

First of all, congratulation on the new baby.  Also, why don't you just pick another neutral color?  I love butter yellow... just sayin'.

I'm sitting in a computer lab overseeing a bunch of high school kids who are trying to improve their reading scores.   It's all about standarized tests nowadays, but reading is a lot more than improving your speed and comprehension.  It's about ENJOYING what you read, and these kids just hate to read, so there little to be done.

Hope your wounds get better soon.

Blessings,

I would pick out a neutral color, and I normally choose the colors of my baby blankets.  However, in the case of my grandchildren, I let my daughter choose the color.  She has control issues, and I prefer to keep the peace as much as possible.

I am a retired public school teacher, so I know all about the standardized tests.  I taught in an inner city K-8 school, and had many middle school students who hated to read.  I believe their dislike of reading has to do with their chronic lack of success at reading.  My daughter is a Title I Reading Specialist, and she had a reading problem in first and second grade.  She works hard to get her students as close to grade level as possible in the primary grades, so that they can be successful readers throughout the rest of their school years.

The nurse came, and liked how the wounds looked today.  The sooner the wounds heal, the sooner I can have my life back.  Being stuck in my rocking chair with the leg elevated 90% of the day is rather frustrating.

I always loved to read and write. Our parents had very little formal education, but made sure that their children appreciated the importance of it. I had high school teachers who inspired me to become an English teacher. What a shock my first year teaching 7-9 graders to find out that not only did they not like reading and writing as much as I did, but some flat DETESTED anything to do with a book or paper and pencil. Some you will make a difference for; some you may never know.

I think part of the problem is there are so many other diversions. When I was a kid I spent a lot of days either under or in a big willow tree in  my back yard when it was too hot to be inside ( no AC). I would walk to and from the library with my best friend Linda at least once a week for a new supply (mostly juvenile romance stuff; not the stuff reality comes from!).

I hadn't thought about this for a long time. I digress. Now kids have AC. Why go outside, and games and all kinds of electronic devices. I still think the imagination can take you anywhere you want to go and it's free!

Good morning Trish and everyone.....

Trish I am happy to hear your wound is healing. I worry so much about you getting an infection. Take care okay!!

Karen I hope you can get that sinus infection cleared up soon. It would be awful to have that on your wonderful trip.

I can't remember who else I was going to rely too. CRS and I have way too much on my mind right now.

I need to quickly run to the bank and then to the grocery store as Carrie and the kids will be here tomorrow. Any junk food I buy them goes home with them!! I have been eating much healthier and I don't want to keep that stuff around!

Wishing you all a wonderful day. Prayers for so many of you in need....a few special prayers as well.

Love and many hugs to all....connie d

Hi Trish and my OFF family:

Getting on here later than I wanted. I just spent time talking to the gecko folks ... you know, GEICO, getting insurance. I had MetLife through my former employer, but payment was taken out through payroll deduction and that has stopped ... so I needed to get insurance for my car and apartment. Now that that's done, I can finish up the morning and get in the shower.

Love that I can have Starbucks coffee in my Keurig brewer now ... bought them at Target the other day ... yummy. Plus I got a $5 Target gift card for buying two of the packages on sale. And a coupon for my next purchase ... such a deal.

Judy, I have been purging as I unpack. I took two boxes of junk to Goodwill yesterday; I don't have room in this apartment for everything I have, especially kitchen stuff. And then there's the couch and coffee table; too big for this apartment. Almost thinking of selling them and getting another recliner instead.

Karen, when I get a cold, right when it's starting, I take this Celestial Seasonings' Wellness Tea with Echinacea. It doesn't get rid of the cold, but it lessens the severity. Now, I know you have a sinus infection and probably need something stronger, but it does seem to help with the symptoms a bit. Couldn't hurt, might help. Just a suggestion. Also, I find putting Vicks VapoRub on my sinuses helps a bit too. Then I put a warm compress on top to draw out the crud.

Well, I should get in the shower and get some lunch and then get ready for work. Have a good day.

I have been tossing things out ...sort of...we have a table in the club house and some clothes that no longer fit me or I do not like I take them to the table and they know its free goodies...lots of poor people live here...so it helps them with new clothes and trinkets...saves me trip to Goodwill also. Happy I can help the tenants out here. :-)

I like our couch and love seat even though it takes up lots of room...but we have the room for them both and Rick likes them to lay on or sleep on also. I have one lazyboy now. (No not Rick...lol)

Glad you are getting settled and will probably beat me to the finish...lol ;-)

HUGS

Judy, don't think I'll beat you to the finish. I still have at least 10 boxes and maybe more in the spare bedroom. These are mostly books and bobbleheads, which I held out to the end. Plus, I still haven't found my boxes of food (don't know where I'll put those; the pantry is filled).

I like my couch too, but I hardly use it. If I got another chair, I'd open up space in this apartment (and future apartments). It's so crowded in here.
