What's Up Wednesday?
My day has been hectic. Last night, I ran down the mountain to pick up an abandoned baby (about 5 week old) little chiuauaa (I'm sure I mispelled that). It's mother turned on it and almost killed it. The woman who had the puppy and her mother dropped it off at a friend of my daughter's who then dropped it off at my daughter's who called me. I brought it home and cleaned the wounds, and put some antibiotic cream that I had used on my kitty. I called my vet and he met us at the clinic and said that most of it was superficial and he gave me some formula and a bottle so last night, I fed the little fella. The vet said he was malnourshed and gave me some drops of vitamins. Today, my friend stayed with him and fed him about every two hours. Tonight, I started him on some high calorie food that the doctor gave me. I also put a picture of him on our message board and I already have five folks wanting him. So, my girls (kitties) can go back to being in a dog free home. They have been curious and have not hurt him and have even tolerated him trying to snuggle with them and even trying to nurse. But, the truth is I will miss the little fellow.
My day at work was all about teacher training. I trained the instructors who will be teaching the business comp classes. I do two workshops a week with them and am helping them with their course materials and hlep them understand the writing differences. Then more meetings and now I am home and in my pjs and am happy that my putty will have a new home and a home where he will be treated well.
So, I hope the rest of your night is good.
Jeannie, When Maggie our Yorkie became a first time (and only) mom she delivered 4 adorable tiny black and brown bundles. She did exactly what she was supposed to but wasn't getting (in my opinion) a grip on nursing. So after about an hour I headed to Petsmart where they were happy to sell me any and everything on the shelf. I came home with a tiny bottle, a can of goat's milk ($7.00 for about a 17 oz can ready to serve!) and grabbed a puppy as Maggie watched. What a disaster. I ended up with that milk everywhere EXCEPT in the puppy. Mike came in and said "Let's go have lunch and leave them alone for a while." We did and when we came back in a bit more than an hour there Maggie was smugly sitting up and nursing the puppies. She had a look on her face I swear that said "If you would have just given me a few minutes I would have figured his out sooner!"

Karen,
I think the only reason he did so well on the bottle was because he was so malnourished. Our administrative secretary and her husband and twin eight year old girls are going to take him. I had about nine or ten people who wanted him, but I wanted to make sure the right person got him. And, Karin has another small dog and they rescued it too. So, I feel it is a good match. I am taking it to them tomorrow. We had a stray mama cat two summers ago, and she had her kitties in our shed. I was outside getting a huge catipillar off of a leaf to fix up for the kids so watch it change into a butterfly and I heard the mama cat. I went to the shed and she was having her fourth of four kitties and I sat with her. The fourth one died or was born dead. My husband called the vet and he said that if it wasn't breathing that there was nothing really that we could do. We moved the mama cat and her three remaining kitties into our garage and I made a nice bed. The mama bled and bled. She got so weak. I called the vet again and he said to give her pedialyte and I did and she drank it some. So, the kitties had no milk from the mother, so I fed them with a bottle. That was a mess. It took the mama kitty well over 48 hours before she built up enough strength to nurse the babies. I fed the mama salmon and tuna and steak and tried like hell to get strong and finally she felt strong enough and fed them. It is difficult bottle feeding baby animals
I am glad your girl got the nursing down because bottle feeding is difficult. OUr little puppy will be going to its new owners tomorrow. I will miss him. Kenny and I decided when he gets his new eyes, we will get us a little puppy.
