I'm the 99 percent, too. Because I work for a newspaper, I keep a lot of my opinions to myself ... no bumper stickers, etc. Even though I no longer write (for the newspaper), I'm still an employee and have to be impartial in the public eye.

My brother is unemployed, and it's not because of anything Obama did or didn't do. And he no longer has health insurance because he's unemployed and his Cobra ran out. He's unemployed because of the AIG mess (he was employed by AIG Milwaukee, and that was a successful division, but it had to be sold to pay the government back). So then my brother was laid off. He's 59 and hasn't been hired for two years. He's getting discouraged. Now his unemployment has been cut off. Luckily, he's living with mom so she's helping him with his bills. He, too, is one of the 99 percent.

Since it's been brought up and I am first reading this. . .

my brother also worked for AIG, actually his division was the one in Connecticut that was at issue, he stayed until the end and endured death threats and whatnot in order to support his family, he and most of those who endured those things, were just the little fish in the pond and as anyone who knows anyone who works in that sort of industry, yearly compensation is based on numbers and year end bonuses, from the high ups to the admins and so the mob mentality that many had to endure, the fact that they were treated that way, was just based on media frenzy and deflection of the real issues, which are those golden parachuted high ups, who are greedy and dishonest to the core.  The year that everyone was in an uproar about the bonuses that people received, my brother was called in and told that that the government was requesting they give back their end of year bonus (the last year that got one).  I am proud of the way he conducted his business, when he told them, excuse me sir, but my bonus is not a bonus, but compensation due me for the excessive hours that I am required to put in, since I am on call pretty much 24/7 and I am not giving back what is my due, especially seeing as I get no raises and since the debacle that has occurred here, I don't even get to take my vacations, because I've been asked to stay and am the last man standing to do your bidding. . .  well, this past July, his job ended, but he took a 17% base salary pay cut and of course there were no bonuses for the last 1.5 years he was there, he was not in an executive level position and continued to seek employment elsewhere and now is hoping to find new employment at the age of 46, with two sons, one in college, one a year away, it is not a good place for him to be. . .

Obama did not make the problems in this country, while I may not agree with all his views, I respect his desire to try and change what has become a gradual decline in the moral fiber of our country, where greed and power hungry politicians rule a place where the American Dream seems to be dying a day at a time for those, like me and my brother, who have worked long and hard and now face a very uncertain future, and I further admire the willingness he had in taking on the mess he did when he stepped into office. . .  he has my vote and I have never voted political party, even while I claim to be a democrat, I vote with who I believe to be the best canidate for the position and from what I've seen, most long-term politicians sell out for power and greed and until everyone pays attention to what is going on and gets involved, nothing really will change and history does have a way of repeating itself. . .  Rome comes to mind. . .

Ok, I've said my peace and am done. . .  I am in the 99%

My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . .  It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . .  Laureen

Well, now that the topic is up and on the table; I'm with you.  I cannot imagine how anyone with a clear conscious can support a man who, not only wanted to fire janitors, but pay poor kids minimum wage to clean up after the rest of the kids.  And, how dare him say that the trouble with poor people is they don't teach their children how to work…yeah…that's cause we never had to work for a living what with all those food stamps…oh wait, that'd be only the black folks that Newt talks about.

He is a tool, for sure.  I really feel sorry for the right this go around…they have no one with any sense to vote for.  I'm happy…Obama will win again with little effort.  I know my friend who is a politician and is a republican says the republican party is heart sick that they have no one that has sense or morals.

But, the truth is, most poiiticans are scum bags…just some are more scum than others.

Hello my OFF sistas!

I've been MIA for a couple of days.  Hubby and I spent the weekend at lakehouse #1 (the one closest to our home).  It was his family's Christmas celebration.  They waited for him to get home, which was so nice of them.  He's the oldest of 6 siblings, and they are all very close.  Anyway, I haven't seen some of them since last Christmas, so my weight loss caused much commentary.  I was complimented over and over again.  It was almost embarrassing, but it really made me feel good, too.

I did pretty good handling all the food all day Saturday.  We had a chili cookoff.  So many fattening foods all day long!  Chilis, cheeses, cornbread, etc.  I brought fresh veggies and fresh fruit, plus a white turkey chili that was high protein and low fat.  Of course, you know everyone was watching every bite I ate!  One of my SIL's said she was going to eat exactly what I ate all day because she wants to lose weight, too.  I haven't told any of them about my WLS.  I just don't feel comfortable discussing it with them, you know?  Anyway, I did fine with the food, except for the desserts.  OMG.  There were so many desserts!  I finally decided to have just ONE BITE of three things: an apple pie, strawberry pie and rhubarb pie.  See, all fruit?  That made it healthy, right?  LOL!  But I didn't put any of the chocolate in my mouth!  And I didn't get sick, so I guess it was okay.

On Wednesday we are travelling to lakehouse #2 (the one I call Hilltop) by way of Waco.  We will be pulling a Uhaul and taking my oldest daughter some things that I'm trying to get out of this house.  Her piano, the treadmill, a sofa table, her doll collection, etc.  After we drop the stuff off in Waco, we'll head on down to Canyon Lake.  I hope we are there by 10 p.m.  It's going to be a long, long day.  And my mom and the pups will be travelling with us, so prayers will be appreciated!  LOL!  I'll have to hang onto my patience with both hands!

So, I'd better get started on some of my afternoon packing chores.  I think I'll pack up the doll collection and the snow globe connection this afternoon.  I just love dolls, and both my girls do, too.  I've got quite a few to pack.

Very happy for Trish that she is home again!  My goodness, what an ordeal!  Hoping and praying that Connie's move goes well.  Prayers for our sisters who are dealing with health issues.  So glad that Eileen is moved and settled, and that Judy and Rick are also moved and settled.  So happy for Pat R. and her budding romance.  Happy for Jeannie and her husband's new eye doctor--waiting to hear good news concerning his eye transplant soon.

Now, Monica and Julia, my two good friends: the wonderful thing about America is we can all believe as we choose and vote as we choose.  So no worries about which side of the political fence we travel on.  We can just agree to disagree and still be friends together on OFF.  Love you BOTH!

And I love you all, too!  Enjoy your Sunday!
