Thought for Today...Deal with it
Well gang...how true it this??? Yep 100% true for this emotional eater! Hugs Debbie
Thought for Today.....Deal with it! Posted: 16 Jan 2012 02:59 AM PST Many of us in the modern society today do not know how to properly deal with our emotions. Just look at what most of us do when we are unhappy/angry/upset/stressed/fearful. We either (a) sleep it away (b) eat it away (emotional eating) (c) drink it away (alcoholism) (d) smoke it away (e) bury ourselves with other things, usually work and/or (f) ignore those emotions altogether. --Celes at Personal Excellence |
Too true. I think I've been turning to chocolate way too much instead of dealing with my emotions. Problem is, I'm not recognizing the emotion or how to deal with it.

Hi Jan,
Well now...you are noticing your reaching for chocolate. Figure out the time of day your reaching for that chocolate? Is it when your watching TV? Reading? Talking on the phone?
You have all ready knocked on wood here Jan, look deeper now and find out how your feeling when your reach for chocolate.
Then try and find something to replace it. Okay...nothing beats chocolate because I'm like you love the darn stuff and always will.
Sugar free candy? Suck on a homemade flavored toothpick? Walk around the block? Call a friend or even post here.
Man, yesterday I was craving chocolate peanut butter fudge (homemade of course) I fought the demon and had a Snapple's diet Peach tea. I was bored. Watching TV of course...so I picked up my mystery thriller I'm reading and ignored that part of my lizard brain telling me to eat sweets.

Really good advice Debbiejean. I will continue to try. A lot of it is facing emotional stress rather than dealing with the problem/person. It's easier to eat chocolate than confront the issue. Especially when it's my 17 year old son and he's in a volatile mood, as teens under stress their junior year generally are 24/7, especially with little sleep. And boredom too. I try gum, but it only works for so long. When I buy sugar free candy (and I have recently discovered Trader Joe's sugar free chocolate, so good!), I eat it way to fast so that's not a good option.
It's a constant battle. I really appreciate the support you always give.
Thanks.
