WAY thin hair! Any tips on wigs or hair help?

My hair was already see-thru thin on the top and sides to start out with but at 4 months out from my surgery my hair is thinning even more and getting worse. I just about want to cry sometimes when I do my hair and often wear a ball cap a lot when running errands, going to work etc. but I'm getting sick of the hat thing. I'm doing the usual, 60 grams protein daily (sometimes more, sometimes less) Hair, skin & nails supplements, biotin etc.
Besides I've heard no matter how much you do its going to come out. My fear is, because I already had a pre-existing thinning hair problem pre-op that its not going to grow back. I'm worried and not wanting to wear some damn, hot ol' wig but at this point it doesn't look like I have a lot of options. I know for sure I want to get a remy human hair wig , lace front, monofiliment top etc. I'm willing to pay big bucks to not have some shiny, overly thick, doll hair looking thing on my head but just looking for advise, tips or whatever from those of you who have been through this. How do you deal with wigs during the heat of summer? I sweat a lot...not that I would feel i had to wear a wig all the time but just wondering.
Thought I might find more help in the over 50 forum. Did some of you who had to end up wearing a wig go from hating the idea to its not so bad afterall in your feelings about it? BTW don't go by my avatar picture...that was in November before my hair started falling out and it for whatever reason it looks better in that pic than it does in real life.

About four or five months out, my hair fell out so badly on the top that my hair woman said, let's just cut it as short as you can stand it and you can wear a wig or nice scarf.  About the same time, I went on some medicine for my lungs and guess what the rest of it pretty much fell out, so I was shiny bald on my head, and my eyes too.  My doctor said take rogaine or whatever that product is and my hair dresser said increase your folic acid.  I did it all and about a month or so later, my hair started coming back.  Sadly, the top never regained its fullness but I am skinny.  I would go with either a nice head cover or do the weave thing if you can tolerate it.

So very sorry for your hair loss. This is devastating for a woman.
Do you wear a wig?
How much folic acd did/do you take?
BTW I've been using Nioxin products for the last 5 years or so
and currently tyring Redken "Intra Force" for thinning hair.
Not sure if it makes any differance.

Not convinced Rogaine is the answer from all the reviews.

I also had hair loss pre-op on my body as well.
I have very lttle hair on my armpits,
or legs and pubic hair is very thin.
Body hair on arms, face etc. blond peach fuzz
My eyelashes are ok, eyebrows thin.
My thyroid has always tested low normal and
I suspect I'm unofficially hypothyroid but not enough for
treatment, never-the -less I have alot of the symptoms:
hairloss, cold hands and feet, dry skin etc etc.

My thyroid has not functioned for thirty years and one of the reasons they never suspected my thryorid for my other symptoms is because I had such thick hair.  I think heredity plays a huge roll in my lack of body hair…I, nor my sisters, have a lot of arm hair or other body hair.  I've never really had face hair and only one of my sisters has to have some face hair waxed.  But my arms and legs have no hair.  I keep my hair very short and since it is pretty much more salt in the front than pepper and a little more pepper in the back than salt, well, I think the thin hair on the top isn't really noticable.  If I part my hair down the middle, it is noticable.

I took folic acid that my wls surgeon ordered.  When I told him what the hair specialists said, he gave me amount but he is a little anti supplement after the first year.  He wanted my eating habits to change to include high protein and high green vegetable content and he said that any thing else other than calcium is just a waste of money.  So, I do the calcium and now am doing B12 but I don't do anything else and all of my blood levels are really good.  Hair loss post wls is routine.  Our body goes into shock from all of the starvation that our body goes through.

Was you doc saying the calcium helps with hair loss or was he talking in general?
You don't take a multi??

After my radiation and during the last of my chemo, some of my hair came out. Mostly on the right side. Anyway, I bought a Merle Norman wig and I really liked it. BUT, I only wore it when I went out in public. Soooo, I probably wore it 15 times before my hair started to come back in. It is now in a box in my dresser in case I need it again.
I have the sleeve and the rate I'm losing weight, my hair is in no danger of falling out! I wish the weight loss was faster!

I don't know if this will hel*****t but do you take any biotin? I've taken it since I had WLS and while I did lose hair, it's come back very thick and healthy and I still take biotin to keep it that way. Good luck.

I went through major hair loss during my early months after my VSG.  I ordered a Paula Young wig off line in the color of my hair.  Just google Paula Young.  When it arrived I took it to my hairdresser, she cut my hair real short, styled the wig in my original hair style and no one ever noticed that I was wearing a wig.  I wore it all the time.  Loved it.  All I had to do was put on my make up, slap on the wig and I was ready to go.

I also upped my protein intake.  I was getting anywhere from 80 to 100 grams a day.  It did wonders for my hair.  When it came back, it was thicker and curly!!!  You may want to consider upping your protein.  60 grams is not a lot.

I hope you find what works for you.

Thank you all for your support!
Well I took the plunge and got a wig today!
I went to a local wig shop and tried several on and found two that I actually liked much to my surprise.
I purchased this one today and have a shorter,
blond one on layaway.
They're both synthetic but so far everybody that has seen it on me says its looks really good and not fake, with big smailes so I know they are being honest.
I may eventually get a human hair wig with a lace front so I can wear it off the face but I'm happy with these for now.
My husband said this wig made me look 10 yrs. younger so thats good!
You can see my real hair in my profile pics.

Vicky, the wig looks fantastic, and very natural!  It'll be nice when you get the shorter, blonde one; then you'll be able to change your look on a moment's notice, rather than going for a haircut/color, etc.

I have very thin hair like you.  It's baby fine, and has thinned more and more over the years, so that I barely have enough to cover my head.  I haven't had surgery yet, but from all the reading I've done here on OH, I know hair loss will probably follow, which means I'll be virtually bald!  I've never been a vain person, but losing even more hair doesn't make me happy at all.  Hopefully the weight loss will help to compensate for the hair loss!
