Vicky,

I don't have any answers to your hair loss or your stall. I lost quite a bit of hair from about 3-5 months post op. It did come back the next 6 months and a bit curly for just a while. I was fortunate to have thick hair before WLS so other than having a sink full of hair in the morning it didn't bother me too much.

I am sorry you're having to go through this. However, you should grow back what you have lost. As for the stall that is something that most of us go through. Maybe you need to up your protein for both your weight loss and your hair loss. Just a suggestion; I am certainly not a doctor and no expert even on myself.

Since it's winter there are lots of cute little hats out there.Maybe a cute a wig or hairpiece is something to put on your wish list. If it makes you feel better you are certainly worth it!

Hopefully this is just temporary so try to keep your chin up and focus on how much weight you HAVE lost in 3 months. Just think how long it took to do that in the past! Take care and best wishes. This is a great group. Hang around more often.

Sorry that you are dealing with hair loss Vicky. I thought that with the VSG you didn't have the vitamin defiencies that the RNY can cause. Maybe it's alopecia (not sure on that spelling). Have you been to the doctor?

Hi, and welcome to OFF!  I'm mainly a lurker here but it is a nice group here.

My first question is are you getting enough protein in?  If not, that could be the problem with both your hair loss and the lack of #'s losing.  I know that is true for me. I still find myself going through periods where I have to be strict with at few protein shakes a day to keep me on track.

Best wishes.

I don't think  post op hair loss is due to a vitamin def. rather the stress of fast weight loss and other factors. I've read here on OH thats no matter how much protein or hair vitamins you take most people experience hair loss..
I guess I just needed to have a pity party today.  Thats for your help.

Nothing wrong with a little pitty party once in a while. Now dust yourself off, look forward, do the best you can each day, make sure you get plenty of protein and fluids and you'll find that scale moving downward again. Hopefully your hair loss will slow soon too. Have a great day!

Vicky,

I had moderate hair loss and a couple of major stalls, too.  It's gonna be okay!  The stalls eventually break through.  Just keep on the program like you're supposed to.  The weight loss will happen.

As for the hair loss, one of the ladies here, Pat R I think, told me about Biotin.  I found a Biotin supplement at Wal Mart that dissolves under the tongue.  I think it has helped.  My hairdresser tells me he sees lots of new hair (very tiny hairs at this point!) growing in.  He also recommended that I take fish oil supplement, but I haven't tried that yet.

I know the feeling of wanting it all to happen RIGHT NOW, but the process just takes a little time.  Hang in there!  You can do this!

Thanks Vickie!
I suppose it could be worse...I shouldn't complain.
I have much to be grateful for.

I seem to have a pattern of losing once a month.  I just lost a few more pounds since I posted this message.  I don't lose for 3 weeks then on the 4th week within a couple days I lose 3-4 lbs. I guess as long as I'm losing I shouldn't spaz.  I think losing slowly is probably better for your body anyway.
I just got my 3 month labs back and all is OK and my cholesterol way down, HDL perfect and everything where its suppose to be.
Yeah!
