I just found this forum for us older folks and am so glad I did. I am 62 and was sleeved on 11-28. Struggling some with the recovery, but getting fluids in and some walking. I figured I was about the oldest to do this and I so hope it goes as well for me as it has for others. How much walking should I be doing at this point?

Congrats!  Never too "old" to get healthy.  Welcome to our little corner of this OH universe, great people with lots of diverse backgrounds, common denominator, WLS and here to offer support along the way, after a while it becomes like a family and you find yourself feeling like you know one another and once in a great while you get to meet up with some on here, like I said great people, warm and caring.

Good you're getting your fluids in, as for walking, I'd say walk as much as you can tolerate without overdoing at this point in the journey.  It's less invasive surgery, but surgery nonetheless, so just do what you can and each day you're likely to find your energy increase.

Best wishes on your journey towards healthier and fuller living!

Laureen

Hello JudyK and welcome!

I'm 54 and had RNY on 2/22/11.  At about 9 1/2 months out, I'm down almost 90 pounds and I feel better than I have in years!  So give it a little time, and you'll be amazed at how wonderful life will become!

I had a pretty easy recovery, but I did take a nap almost every day for the first 2 months.  Don't be afraid to listen to your body and give her the loving care she needs to recover and adjust.  I wasn't able to walk very far at the beginning.  I would just make laps in our driveway (we live in the country).  But any movement is good for you.  Just do what you can and try and do a bit more every other day or so.

Glad to see you here on OFF!  Keep coming back and post often.  This group helped me tremendously at the beginning of my journey.  Lots of warm caring and wise advise to be had here.

Hello, Judy. Welcome to our little group.
In September I was revised from a band to a sleeve. I just turned 64. I loved my band and lost 125 pounds with it. But due to a surgery related to my cancer I had to have my band unfilled. I have spent the last 2 years and lots of money trying to get back to the perfect fill. I also have a significant regain!. I finally gave up and decided to get the sleeve. I followed all the rules on going from clear liquids, to full liquids, to mushies, to regular food. I have not lost one pound! I can and have been eating anything and everything. Just like when my band was empty. I go back for a pouch reduction on the 15th.
I began walking as much as I could tolerate as soon as I was up and around after surgery. I am still doing my treadmill every morning.
I hope you have great success with your sleeve. Keep us posted and come back often to visit.

Welcome.  I am 54 and was sleeved on 11/16.  I have lost about 20 lbs. in 3 weeks
, but am experiencing some discomfort and still trying to adjust.  Good luck to you.

Hi! You are just  a little ahead of me. I'm not feeling much discomfort from the surgery itself, but mostly trying to get in clear liquids with a little protein. That does make the tummy rumble and growl and doesn't feel very good. I don't start full liquids until next week and I think it is going to be challenging to know how much to eat without upsetting the tummy. Keep me posted as to how you are doing. We are all in this together!
