Successful Saturday: What's Up?
Since no one has started the what’s up thread, I thought I get it started. My grandbabies will all be going home today, so I plan on spending the day decompressing. I have had my daughter’s three and they have kept me on my toes. Yesterday, I made turkey potpie, which is somewhat a tradition at my house. All three wanted to help: The 13 year old cut up the cooked turkey into little squares; The 4 year old poured all the left over vegetable through a colander to remove all liquid; and the 7 year old rolled out the pie crust. We heated onions and celery in olive oil, then poured in our veges, then a cup of heavy cream, followed by the meat cubes and the left over giblet gravy. They kept saying, all that won’t fit in the pie pan. (we used the deep dish cake pan.) The top crust had their initials carved in it. One hour later, the kids ate their turkey potpie. For those of you who do cooking with young children, you know how much longer it takes to have the kids little inexperienced hands helping. While it is fun for them, and you are creating lasting memories and traditions they will carry into their families, it takes so much longer and so many more dirty dishes. HA! My daughter called and said, did you make turkey pot pie. I said yep. She said, who cup up the turkey? I said, Jacob. She said, that was always my job. I said, yep. She said, I think I am going to try to make it. I said, you should. So, when she gets here today, I will have the recipe written down, which she should have memorized. Now, they are getting ready to head home and nana must say she is ready. They are my heart but at the end of their visit, my heart needs a rest.
What are you guys doing today?
Do you have any post Thanksgiving traditions that you may or may not have done with kids, yours or others, or just with yourselves?
Jeannie your holiday sounded so good!!!! Ours sucked!!! For the two of us it would have been perfect but ofcourse mommy dearest had to go and ruin yet another holiday...just her style lately but then its always been like that with Rick. Sure can tell which son is the favorite....and no its not Rick!!! Sighs...enough said...glad that you had a good time making that pot pie!!! Sounds really good!!! But right now just looking at turkey is making me feel sick....LOL
HUGS
It is fun cooking with the grandchildren!! However, you are right there is a lot more to clean up and it takes a lot longer. The smiles on their faces when they see the done creation is well worth the extra time and mess.
Wishing you all a great day!
Prayers for those in need.
Love and hugs to all......connie d
all was quiet at our house as all 3 daughter's were at the in-laws. Which is fine with me, no cooking! Or leftovers.
Heck we had steak and potatoes and green beans. LOL
Plan on cooking our turkey tomorrow. I love turkey sandwiches, soups and hey that turkey potpie sounds yummy.
Went and got my nails done, bright red with snowflakes added to my ring finger nails. So cute. Got my eyebrows waxed too...A new woman!
Hugs and prayers for all in need. Still loving on my barn kittens, they are now purring and don't run away when I open the door. I'm wearing a Christmas sweater today. Getting into the Christmas Season. Oh we did go do some Christmas shopping on Friday, got all the grandkids sleep wear. Toys will come later. I think Grandpa is going to make them toys this year.
I love your grandchildren stories. You are a wonderful Grandma! I only have one child (Laura) and she is not having children yet so being a Grandma is just not in the cards for me in the near future. I will be a loving and fun Grandma I know!
I am getting ready to put a turkey in the oven right now. I promised to meet an 80 year old friend for a drink (I am not sure what I will drink, probably water with lemon, but maybe a beer) at Noonish so I will leave my husband to do some potato prep. We traveled to eat turkey this year and the meal was good but no leftovers and it was not my kind of stuffing, etc. Our daughter had to work so this will be our family Thanksgiving.
Other than that I am starting the Christmas decorating. My husband will put the tree together (it's huge- 9 feet tall) and I will start the process. I am gimpy since I broke that vertabrae in my back, but I manage. Sometimes I climb the ladder with my husband holding my hand for security- he's such a good BOY! We'll see how our dogs do- they are just two years old and puppies at heart so we will need to watch them and try to keep the tree as break proof as possible. I have some antique ornaments but they are not going up.
The day will be full. I'm doing better with my sadness at the moment. I will just ride the waves if the sadness comes. I've been here before so I don't get scared of the sadness like I used to do. The panic made everything worse. Hope you are all weathering the storms as well.
