Well, crap
I don't know if any of you remember a few weeks ago I had to have a needle biopsy on my right breast. The radiologist called two days later and said that all was clear and there were no signs of malignancy.
Yesterday I was scheduled to have a follow up visit with the breast specialist at 2:00. She was held up in surgery longer that my planned time away from work, and I had to leave before seeing her. At 4:15, while doing a haircut, she called to tell me they "revised" the pathology report and "abnormal cells" were found. A lumpectomy is strongly advised, she said.
How in the hell do we go from "everything is great, see you in six months", to having a pre-op consult with the surgeon and an appointment with the anesthesia department on MONDAY???????
My head is spinning.

Susan,
Hoping that the lumpetomy proves groundless and that you get a real "all clear". . . I hear you with the muddled message, first getting an all clear and then finding out there is a cause for concern. Prayers and positive thoughts going out for you. . .
Hugs, Laureen

Breath Susan, 9 times out of 10 a lumpectomy will get all the abnormal cells & leave a clear margin. Worry too much & you will make yourself crazy. I wish I could be there to walk you through this, but I know you & Gary can do this . Contact me if you need to, I am usually here. Prayers for you.

Susan,
The new technology is better than ever. If they see some abnormal cells it is a great idea to get it out. They may call it DCIS- it is pre-cancer. I wish I had gone in earlier than the 3 years I waited between mammos. If I had I bet they would have done my lumpectomy before the abnormal cells invaded other tissue. That is when it is called cancer. Even though mine was cancer, it had barely moved so it was a "very small" cancer.
