Keep a journal.
I had a really late night and cannot seem to get my brain going. Today is treadmill day and this evening my grandbabies will be here. If it doesn’t rain, tomorrow we are taking the kids over to devil’s den and walk around on one of the really easy trails. My husband hasn’t been hiking since his eye surgery and he is going to the transplant doctor next Friday and that doctor called and said that he will probably get his new corneas the next week. So, there will be no walking out of the house for him for a few weeks after the transplant. Because of his age, and the severity of his disease, they are giving him two corneas. Yeah!!!
Well, after my walk/run, I am going to start my food journal for my trainer. He wants a three-day food thing so he can see how my food and exercise are pairing up. Plus, he told me that he has found that if people keep a log of their food and their activities, they will see it on a paper and see when they eat more, when they sit for long periods, and it can inspire change. I bought just the perfect little notebook for that job and will be writing all my intake and all my output. I have decided to keep doing it until after the first so that I will have my total record.
So, here is my challenge to you: Write it down. Over the next few weeks, write down all your food, drinks, and your exercise. Include in your exercise journal, how far you walk from your car inside the grocery store etc. If you write it down, you will see how it all looks.
That is a great idea and I tell all the people in my support group that it is a good habit, as you can't lie to yourself when it's all there in black and white, besides it's also a good way to see what needs to be changed when things are not going in the right direction.
In the early part of this journey I logged everything, then about 1.5 years ago, I started logging less, then last fall not at all and by March, tighter clothes resulting in buying a larger size for the first time in 3.5 years, made me go back to the logging of everything I ate and logging the exercise I was doing. This process helped me mentally in that I could see the things I needed to change as well as the concrete things I was changing and at the end of each week, even if my scale was not moving I continued to know I was on a course with right action and that in time things would be in my favor, even if not showing up on a scale.
While the exercise portion of my life right now is pretty much nonexistent, I am still logging my food daily and I even have a free app on my cell phone that I can do so with, so there are no excuses, other than if I'm rushing around I forget, but as soon as I remember, I log my food.
You're involvement on the boards these days is awesome!!! Thanks
Laureen
My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . . It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . . Laureen
