Day 7: Today I am thankful for--
Today I am thankful for our youngest daughter, Christie. If you only knew the horribly difficult road we have travelled with her, you would understand the significance of that statement! I will not drag up all the past difficulties, except to say there were moments where I did not think she would survive her own self-destruction.
BUT--here is she is today, doing wonderfully. She is a great Mommy! So loving and patient with little Benny and such a good caretaker. I know she will never be problem-free; she will always require additional support from us to function during the stressful times. But the birth of her child changed something inside her for the better. I give thanks to God for the positive changes He has wrought in my daughter.

Today I am thankful that my PCP gave clearance for the surgery even though I have a wicked cough. Using my 3 inhalers again. Dr. Rhiew said he would tell the surgeon to watch my lungs very, very closely. I want this surgery so bad. The pain the last 2 days is really too much. I have the house in great shape so I'll be able to rest up this week. Lots to be thankful for these days. Mag

Today I am thankful for our employer and the jobs both my husband and I have. He has been with the company for 28 years and I have been there for 24 years. Not only have we had stable jobs which has enabled us to own our own home and have a wonderful life, my employer has been totally supportive of the year off I took with each of my children, letting me work part-time since my oldest was born, and totally supporting me through all my surgeries.

I just read an article about expressing gratitude daily. I'm going to try this and see if it makes me feel better (as the article suggested).
I'm grateful for my sweet Juliette, who makes my life so much brighter and fuller every day, who gives me a reason to wake up, some thing to come home to, who's always waiting at the door for me (yeah, I know, she wants food, but she also misses me ... one of my friends on my cat group says cats are excited to see us because they are glad we weren't eaten by predators).

I am thankful for the support I get in my mental health recovery. I have been helped professionally, as well as with mentors and prayer. I have my AA sponsor, and friends from church. If you knew me 25 years ago, you would not have wanted to do anything with me.
I still have work to do, but the change is a miracle of God. When my husband divorced me 10 years ago, I believed I would do harm to myself. I was incapable of living on my own, and not self-destructing.
In the past ten years, I earned a Masters in Social Work, had gastric bypass surgery, lost 100 pounds, traveled multiple times to Michigan on my own, saw two of my children married, and became a grandmother to two beautiful angels.
While I did accumulate six years sobriety, I had a relapse for two years, but have been sober since January 2010.
I could not have done all this without the strength and love of God, and the friends and family He has blessed me with.

Seek always to do some good, somewhere. Every man has to seek in his own way to realize his true worth. You must give some time to your fellow man. For remember, you don't live in a world all your own. Your brothers are here too.
