Oatmeal Isn't Just For Eating
Realizing my face was beginning to show the signs of extreme aging, I started using bath and body lotions, soaps, creams, and butters twice a day. I made sure that I use the lotion on my body, the butter on my feet, heels, and elbows, and face cream on my face. The only difference is that last year, I added two more products: Burt’s Bees Wax hand salve and Noxzema face cleanser.
I put body butter on my face, neck and shoulders before putting on my make up. Ladies, I tell you that if you use the heavy compressed makeup like I use, putting the body butter on first, actually makes the make up go on a lot smoother and keeps it from filling the wrinkles. At night, I wash all the makeup off with Noxzema and then apply a thick layer of the burts bees hand salve on my face, neck, elbows, feet, and heels then I put my little hand conditioning gloves on and a thick pair of socks.
Once a week, I use my homemade facial mask and my homemade astringent.
Homemade Facial Mask: In a food processor, pour a couple of cups of raw oat meal, ½ cup of sea salt, 1 T. of sage. Keep this in a clean airtight container in your powder room. Before using, mix I egg white with about ¼ cup of your dry ingredients and quickly pack it on your face and leave it on for 20 minutes. (Make sure you clean your face with a good soap before applying your paste).
Wash the paste off and using ho****er, wash your face with a good soap—I use Noxzema.
Homemade astringent: 3 T of lemon juice, 1 tsp of rose water, 1 tsp of lavender.
Using a soft cotton ball, I smear the astringent all over my face and neck.
Once this is done, I put a very hot towel over my face and let it really open my pours.
Then, I use an ice cube to shock my pours back to a normal size.
My friend makes all of her body shines and got me started doing these facials and I have to tell you, in the beginning I thought it was bunk. But, I can sure tell the diffeence. The oatmeal does sort of like packing, the salt draws out impurities from the pores and the egg white draws and puckers too. The astringent really cleans the pores.
My friend who makes her shine products, actually makes her own lotions and creams. I don't go that far, but I have used olive oil on my face and crisco on my feet.
I really work on my feet because when I was so super morbidly obese, my heels cracked, my toes cracked, and I had this horrible callous on my outside of the feet that it took me such a long time to get rid of it. I literally soaked my feet in oil and wrapped them in thick socks. The more weight I lost, the more I was able to do to take care of the poor feet. Now, my feet are so soft and perfect, but I do work to keep them soft.
Make sure, when you take the paste off, you use a paper towel or toilet paper and throw it in the garbage, or it could stop up your sink.
