To Have and To Hold: Finding the Perfect Fit

Today, when I go to the gym, one of my friends is going to meet me there.  I am opposed to planning my walking/running or even my zumba dance class on anyone’s but my own schedule because usually exercise buddies distract me.  But, my friend called and asked what time I was going to the gym, and I told her, and she said, maybe I’ll meet you there.   She and I started walking on the treadmills together a couple of years ago, but she quit and I continued.  When we talked, she asked me if there was another time that I could go to the gym because she wanted to go later in the afternoon, I said, I am not changing my time, but if she wants to meet me at my time, I’d be happy to have her use the machine next to me and we could talk; although, I’d rather listen to music.  I hope that she comes and finds a routine that will work for her.  That’s the ticket to sticking to an exercise program: you have to find a time that works for you, clothes that you feel comfortable wearing, shoes that don’t hurt your feet, and an exercise that you like.  Plus, when you go out to exercise, you have to find a gym where you fit.  I’m lucky that the university gym has a typical university ambiance—inclusive and tolerating.  For a while, I used another gym that no matter what time I went, there were always these perfect men and women in designer training outfits and they seemed to be a little annoyed that I was there using one of their machines.  So when you find all the right fits, a true marriage of mind and body can occur.

Today is walking/run day.  I have decided to increase my distance but not my time, which means that I will run more than walk.

It's going to be a beautiful day here before storms come in this evening and tomorrow. I'm planning on getting onto my bike for an hour or so, then walk over the Big Dam Bridge once or twice. One round trip on the bridge is 1.6 miles with quite a steep, grade on both sides.

Girl,

When you say you are going to get back on track, you jump in with both legs and arms.  Look at you. You are feeling better too aren't you?

I went 2 miles on foot and 6 miles on the bike. Now, if I could just see some results

Today my back feels better, I am planning on doing 30 minutes on the elliptical

The elliptical for me again today. I do 30 minutes but still continue to break it up. I do 15/15 most times.

When I exercise I don't want to be talking to anyone either. I like that time to concentrate on what I am doing. Paying attention to my breathing is important for me.

Connie,

Me too.  My friend was there and she was on the treadmill next to mine, but I put my ear plugs in and told her that I had a system.  I bumped it up a mile and thought my legs were going to drop off.  But, the adrenal rush and the endorphines are great for about six hours.

Good for you getting on the elliipitcal.  I once heard a guy talking about exercising and he said fifteen minutes at a time is good even ten minutes.

You are doing great!
