Good Afternoon Trish and OFF-

Haven't been posting for a while just lurking in the background.

Trish congrats on the future grandchild.
Nancy sounds like you have a winner with your cancer doctor and as she told you the science has changed so much over the years.
Judy sorry about the elephant over your apartment.

The last three weeks have been rather hectic for me.  I spent one week finishing a retirement quilt for a friend who is retiring tomorrow.  It turned out beautifully and I learned all sorts of new techniques but it was also the quilt from hell in many respects.

Just after finishing the quilt I got on a plane and flew to NC.  Checked on my Mom and my godfather.  Mom had to have a squamous cell skin cancer removed from her scalp.  She now has a hole about the size of a geranium leaf and when healed will have a large bald spot.  She's consulting a plastic surgeon about whether she'll need a skin graft.  She's moving into a senior indenpendent living complex and has been preparing for the move all summer.  My Dad was in the military and they moved at least 21 times during their marriage.  This will be her last move.  I'm trying to encourage her to reduce inventory and shed some things but it's a process let me tell you.

My godfather has moved into a hospice ward at a VA hosiptal in NC.  He is in kidney failure and doesn't want dialysis.  He was upbeat and the hospital is a nice facility.  You see so many horror stories about VA hospitals but this one is nice.

After a brief four day visit, I drove back to Maine with a life long friend who wanted to visit but didn't want to drive by herself.  She gave me the plane ticket.  OMG talk about lifestyle tests.  I have learned since surgery that I have to eat on schedule otherwise Brunhilda gets fussy and I eat too fast causing discomfort.  My friend is a type II diabetic and she was on a sugar binge as we drove to Maine.  Clearly she doesn't eat on a schedule and she eats crap.  Compounding that she has a chihuahua that is spoiled rotten.  She feeds the dog human food and we had to stop every so often at McD's or Wendy's for food for the dog.  When we got to Maine we went grocery shopping and let me tell you it was another test.  Oreos, candied apples, hersey minatures, salami, cheese, etc...  I made her keep it all in her cabin so I wouldn't be tempted.

After a week my friend decided she didn't want to stay the second week so Monday we started driving to NC.  Again the food for dog was an issue along with sticky buns, candy bars, etc... that she consumed.  Fortunately I had packed greek yogurt, string cheese, almonds as a survival kit.  So I learned some life lessons from this experience.  Always pack survival foods, clearly state that you have to eat on a schedule and clearly state that we'll be avoiding the temptation stops.

So now I'm back in NC at my Mom's trying to help her sort out her closets and get ready to move on Monday or Tuesday next week.  She signed the papers today and paid her last check.  I can't stay for the move because I'm supposed to fly back to Maine on Monday.  I struggled when I was here last week with the emotional eating part of life.  You know the cookie jar and "would you like a bowl of ice cream?"

I am currently stalled but not worrying as the clothes keep getting bigger.  The NUT gave me a goal for my 3 month and it's 18 more pounds by October 19.  Hopefully the stall will break and that I'll make the goal.

Hope everyone else is having a great day!

Hope that your mom will be okafter this move and her hair will grow over her patch. As for your godfather...so sorry to read about him and not wanting to go through the dialisis. So sad. Glad that the VA hospital he is at is a nice place! SO many are not!

Wishing you the best to get to your goal...it will be hard with all your turmiol that you have going on but if you keep focused you can do it!!! Hang in there!!

Hi Trish and my OFF family:

Yeah, Tri**** was a wild finish to the baseball season. I had to monitor those games for the sports section I was doing to get them in the paper. Then I had to look for photos. And wait for stories and wait for photos. It was hectic. I was the last to leave the office. Kind of spooky. Got home at 1 a.m. and didn't get to bed til about 4. Didn't get up til nearly noon and have a headache.
Worried about finances this week; rent week and somehow have to figure out how to pay other bills too. Plus buy food. Don't need gas at least; car goes through a tank of gas in a month.

So I should do something today but I'm still in my jammies and not in the mood to do a lot.

Nancy, you are amazing. I wish I had half your optimism and energy. All I have to deal with is chronic pain; you have cancer. Much worse. Best wishes.

Well, everyone have a good day. No baseball to watch, so I'll find something else to do.

Hi Trish and OFF family, just bringing up the rear again!
Congrats Trish on the new grand baby...I love being a grandma!

So gang, today I did my 4 mile walk and finished just before it started to rain. I have tomorrow off but have to meet the gal who is going to play piano for me at church at 10am. So I'll be up and running around tomorrow. I think I may just make a trip to the Salvation Army and see if I can find some treasures.

The leaves are falling off the trees here in Michigan. It's suppose to get to 30 on Saturday. Yep, Fall is here. The sweaters are coming out! I love Fall anyway, it's one of my favorite seasons.

Hugs and prayers for all in need. Have a great evening. Debbie
