OK ... I believe the problem is solved!  When I reported this same problem to AT&T awhile ago the girl told me they could do nothing about it...I would have to call a tech to come to the house and I would have to pay him/her.  It does pay to try again!

I am just tickled pink (me mum got it backwards once and said pickled tink!!!), I just finished my first protein shake! ... I think I could live on this stuff!!!  I went to WalMart yesterday and bought Body Fortress whey protein!  For 15$ for 2 #.  And this is my recipe: 1 scoop powder, 1/2 skim milk, 1/2 water, 1/2 ns nf cocoa mix, 1 level nc coffee, and crushed ice!!!  Yum!

Now to try to remember what I wrote before ... Oh, yes!  My new topic!  I awoke at 5:30 this morning with a screaming pounding headache.  I plastered my almost whole head with el cheapo muscle rub from Dollar General and took my firmly suggested aceta-----phen and went back to bed with an ice pack to the back of me neck.  Awoke a little later ... still in terrible pain.  More el cheapo and back to bed.  When next I got up, I went for the good stuff!  Yep...el cheapo Excedrin ... DG!  1/2 hour .... no headache!  Whatever will I do after surgery?  And...my diet is sooo unsatisfactory!  whoa! ... it is infinitesimal!  I guess it's because my date all of a sudden is like a week away.....!  Good thing I like ...check that...love my protein shake!

So... I am so sorry to read how so many of you are not feeling well, hope this turns around soon... with guidence from God all things are possible .. but we do have to talk to Him.  Hope you don't mind but this is going to be a long one, I think I feel more like one of the Forum now!  And can divulge more of my situation.  But right now I want to tell you about a really good drink!  Cranberry juice and water 1/2 and 1/2!

It has been awhile since I wrote  and just don't want to go into anything that would be a downer.  So...let's see....had supper and then watched "Dharma", I love everybody on that show, it is so funny and clever!  I am so excited ... can you tell?  I will be going to St. Augustine on the 14th; have to be there at 8am!  Will do pre-op at the hospital and bloodwork, then it's education and nutition etc.  On the 15th I will be back there at 2:30 for my pre-op physical exam with my surgeon, Dr. Marema, then home again.  My surgery is Monday the 19th sometime before 10am, I will be told when I see the doctor.

I have so many plans for when I am able to put things into practice!  I have been looking for affordable housing for seniors and found 2 places that are reasonable and really quite grand, but they are at the opposite side of where I am now and I reall want to stay in Port Orange.  So I called our city government and asked why PO does not have that  sort of project here.  Got into a long and interesting conversation and found that there has been funds earmarked for this very possibility!  So, I will be at the first meeting of City Hall when I am able after surgery!

I played around the site of my town and dicovered a proposal made to the City Counsel by our Mayor, Allan Green concerning a Community Garden idea of his.  I have always liked this idea and so I E-mailed him that I would like to involved in this quest!  He called me and we shared a long conversation about several things he has going and the up shot of all this is that I am to call him when I am ready and he will provide me with info of different kinds on Community Gardening!  Wait till I hit him with my affordable housing project .......!!!!!

As you can see I will be so glad to lose this excess me and be more able
to carry thru on many of my desires ... not the least of which is to go back to yoga!  I taught yoga for a few years, a group of over 50's and also over weighters!  It was such a wonderful way to get needed exercise and to learn to quiet the mind and experience such peace and to interact with a bunch of lovely women!

Well ... enough for now.  I seldom write so I've taken a lot of liberty with all of you my lady friends and leave you now in peace and love ...
......Sam

 Hi Sam,
Boy, do I envy you at this moment.  I am one who suffers from chronic pain, like constant, excruciating back pain.  Doctors have told me their hands are tied.  I can't take N-saids, or aspirin due to the gastric bypass, and I can't take narcotics, due to being an addict/alcoholic.  There are few meds that actually do anything to relieve the pain.  So, I am learning alternative things I can do for my pain issues.  One, I am looing into is Mindfulness Meditation, which is not cheap, but my therapist highly recommends it for chronic pain management.

Would I change having the surgery, to go back to N-saids?  No way.  Part of the reason I have the chronic back pain is the damage my 320 pound body did to my back and other joints.  I like the lighter version of me.

Good to get to know you.

Hugs,
Trish

Actually, there is a way...but check with your surgeon first...I am more than 3 years out, and my surgeon is a little more lenient regarding NSAIDs.....He allows short use of Celebrex, if  that helps you in any way...In my case it does F-All......and likewise before my RnY.

HOWEVER:  before Rny I had a radical open hysterectomy, and my OBGYN surgeon had me on VOLTAREN SUPPOSITORIES ( generic name is Diclofenac) 50 mg, and he gad me use them twice a day at 12 hour intervals for 4 weeks..

Fast forward to post weight loss surgery:  by now I have fibromyalgia, osteo arthritis everywhere (shoulders, spine, lower back, hips, knees, ankles and feet, and elbows), degenerative discs, spinal stenosis, bone spurs sticking into spinal nerves, and what is euphemistically described as " exuberant bone growth" in various parts of my body...in shorter words: chronic debilitating pain everywhere.

The only thing that really helped with all my pain before WLS was Arthrotec  and oral tablet ,which is Diclofenac with a coating to protect your stomach.....However it is the same basic ingredient as Voltaren, and I liked the idea of suppositories ( suggested by my  OBGYN and now years later by my GP) as not in direct contact with my presurgery/postsurgery stomach and intestines...although you are still susceptible to ulcers and spontaneous bleeding because the Voltaren(diclofenac) is blood born...and all NSAIDs are systemic throughout your body (which is why they help a variety of aches and pains)...SOOOOO I asked my surgeon if I could take the suppositories, as the only NSAID in suppository 50 mg is Voltaren/Diclofenac...His answer was yes, for "limited time" and as long as I also took an oral PANTOLOC tablet ( protein pump inhibitor) which provides minimal protection to my new pouch, the old stomach, and my intestines....

So when I am really hurting, or planning an active holiday, I use the 50 mg suppository in one end, and the Pantoloc taken  orally at  the mouth end...and I am a happy camper.  Have been on this NSAID taken this way for up to 6 weeks, and although just one suppository a day does not kill all the pain, it sure lets me be mobile and enjoy life now that I am more active because of my weight loss....

Hope this combo of the 2 meds may help some of you if your surgeon is willing to let you try it!..Mine insists you be at least 3 years out from surgery...and lets you take Celebrex (if that works for you, ask your surgeon if he is OK with this...you may have to take an acid reducer or Pantoloc as well).  As for me, my Diclofenac ( the generic of the brand name Voltaren) suppository for several weeks at a time to handle inflammation and pain works for me (combined with Pantoloc for pouch and intestine protection, other surgeons may want you on something else giving similar protection)....

Good luck, we all have a right to have WLS and be relatively pain-free if at all possible from arthritis and other pains....Here's hoping someone will someday come up with an NSAID type med that we CAN safely take  for pain and inflammation as we are getting older and need pain relief just like everyone else...

Hello Mermaidoz ... thank you for involving yourself so extensively in my wefare!  And wow, you have so much more pain than I.  I am at the moment dealing with not one but 2 two rotator cuff problems in both shoulders and my dear excedren took care of that.  I also have osteoarthitis in me knees and then of course all the other pain that comes along with being 75, includind that occasional headache!  I wrote down your meds and will check with my doctor.

Where did you come from .. I never saw you here before, where in Canada do you live?  And may I know how long ago you had your surgery?  Mine is the 19th of September ... I am very trepidatious
about it ....  But I will follow thru ..... nice to talk to you....hugs ..Samantha

Hi, I am 66, had my surgery at 62 ( you can see when I joined OH and my surgery date listed under my avatar)...and my Red LIps avatar haven't been see on OH Boards much lately as I don't post much anymore but I drop in and read some posts....Like most people on OH, we tend to be more active in  the learning stage and for about a year or so post op...then we get busy with life and don't come on here that often...I am in Ottawa, so my first "home" is the Ontario Forum...then the general RnY Forum, and I occasionally pop in here as I am over 50....Just cme back from a 6 week vacation which was qite active so I am now weaned ( over the last 2 weeks) from my Diclofenac suppositories and the Pantaloc....

Since you are pre-surgery, your surgeon will not want to hear about NSAIDS (if at all)...most surgeons will NOT let you have them  ever, and mine only  when you  are 3  years out from surgery...

In the meantime, I hope your pains don't worsen and you can find other relief....Be sure to ask your surgeon what you can take for pain instead of NSAIDs ...some give Percocet prescriptions for serious pain, otherwise they tell you to take Tylenol.....

Good Luck
