Combating Regain, How are We Doing It?
Mary,
It is wonderful to see you, been a long time since I've seen a post from you here.
One of the reasons I started this post about two months ago, was to help me regain some of the dedication I had early on in this journey, so my regain of 25 lbs. made me feel like a failure and a cheat. While I was ok with the regain of the first 10 lbs., I was not with what happened over the course of last winter and so at a support group meeting, as well as amongst some of my friends that I made as a result of this experience, the discussion came up and it was more about people who were struggling and not wanting to talk about it that made me decide that it is a real issue, as I stated above to Connie, us WLSr's are experts at losing weight, it's the maintenance phase of it all that we struggle with and even within this experience, it becomes about the same thing.
I think it is very human to achieve a desired result and sit back and think, ok, I got this now or, in my case, for some unknown reason, I really thought the maintenance part would be easier if I just got to a certain place. Well not so and since I am not alone on this journey or this struggle to maintain, I am dedicated to speak up about this, being the person who will address the elephant in the room that no one wants to see or speak of, and if it helps others to open up their mouths and get back on track, that makes what I'm sharing here something beneficial.
As a result of this accountability thread, I am on track most days and the results are harder to achieve, but the momentum I am building is helping me continue on. So feel free to participate in any way you choose, I try to post 2x weekly (Monday and Friday) and I look forward to anyone's thoughts about it, and/or sharing their WOW moments, because we don't have them like we once did, a WOW moment for me last week was not being able to get to the gym on Tuesday, due to attendance at a family funeral, Wednesday's are not usually a gym day, well I had to go to support group and because it is summer, traffic is light, I got there earlier enough that I was able to make the gym and it was a decision I made spur of the moment ****ep extra gym clothes in my car at all times) and so I took care of myself in that instant and that is a biggie for me. . .
Anyway, great seeing you again, say hello to our friend for me.
Hugs, Laureen

Hi Laureen!
I haven't posted much in a while, but it's a good time to jump in on this thread.
I am back to the gym in earnest. I had slacked off to 2-3 times a week, but now am doing daily workouts that rotate jazzercise, water aerobics (hard), mat pilates, and yoga. I am enjoying the "quieter" yoga and mat pilates classes as I mix them into the routine.
Weekends are hard because I fall into snacking too much. Today I used 2 Premier Protein shakes and had a Subway salad. Snacks were fruit and SF hot cocoa. Not bad day overall, at all!

Hi Laureen,
You are doing great my friend! Go girl!
How I'm combating my regain:
1. Mindful Eating (reaching for protein first)
2. Ugh!...Learning my new job and it's keeping me hopping! Love it though!
3. Rode my bike this morning before coming in to work then I walked one mile here at work during my break! Score one for me!! Increasing my exercises and getting my mojo back! LOL
4. Brought my lunch and drinking all my water.
5. Since this is my first week on 3-11 shift, I'm making new habits for me. No eating when I get home...maybe this will help me with my snacking at night. Go right to bed when I get home and snuggle with hubby and hopefully go to sleep right away!
Keep posting these post Laureen I think most of us need to know we are working hard at doing the right things for us.

I realized that I needed something! Wasn't sure what it was. I have not gained back a lot...been ranging from 95-105 pound loss. My problem is night time hunger! Ugh! I do really well at work all day but once I get home. I posted a picture of before and after on my fridge and wrote "STOP! WHY ARE YOU EATING? ARE YOU HUNGRY? ARE YOU BORED? WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO SATISFY?" I haven't notived where it's helped! Double ugh! I have been having a lot of arthritis pain so not doing a lot of exercising...I know...an active body! I purchased the AbDoer and will see if that helps! I also purchased a special scales that records, weight, body fat, hydration level, muscle density and bone density. To my dismay I was NOT in the average! My hydration level according to their chart puts me at "severly dehydrated"! My muscle density and bone density are both way low too. :(
As I've never seen you here before, I want to welcome you to OFF and from your other post, I see you know Pat. . .
This post is for anyone struggling and quite a number of folks suffer from night hunger, seems like you are trying to do everything you can to combat it, with the things you stated above. I'm wondering whether or not you are getting in your fluids, or is that just the scale telling you what it thinks. . . when you think you are hungry, try drinking some water or making a cup of decaf tea or coffee or perhaps a low sodium chicken or beef bullion, sipping slowly and see if that satisfies you.
Where I had surgery, we are supposed to have small meals 6x a day, or 3 meals, 3 healthy snacks about every 2.5 to 3 hours, this is to stave off the hungry demons and you know that way that you can't be hungry. I'm not advocating our way, but perhaps that will help.
I know you said you have arthritis, but perhaps you can find a reasonable gym that offers water areobics, as in the water, you are weightless and get a good work out in the process.
The main thing is that you recognize there are things you need to do better and since this is a lifelong commitment, just recommit yourself to doing what you know works, the hardest part is getting started, but it does get easier once you build some momentum.
Come back anytime and we are all here to support one another.
