Hi .... just wondering how many grams of protein should I be taking in these days before my surgery?  I was only required to cut portions in half and no white stuff...  My surgery is Sept. 14th..Sam

Hi Sam,

You might try asking your surgeon or the nutritionist, if there is one in your doctors office.  Not sure that pre-sugery there is an issue about how much to have.  It sounds like they are trying to prepare you for the much smaller amounts you will be having in the future, as well as to get some weight off pre surgery.

Good luck, Laureen

Hi Sam,

I think Laureen is right. No one said anything about how much protein to eat per day. Surgeon was concerned about plenty of liquids and 1 small meal per day. I'm pretty sure others have told you about the need to shrink your liver. The doctors need room to work inside.

    Hugs to you,     Mag

My instructions were to eat protein PERIOD and all that i could ,,,nothing else as if your protein isnt enough , you hair loss will be alot ..
I ate things like scrambled eggs, PB, refriend beans with lots of low fat 2% cheese in them , tuna with mayo ...i never started with a liquid diet ,,,no protein shakes for me either ,,,oh and lots of cottage cheese ,,
Main thing is not to eat anything dry.  dry meat will stuff you in one bite and you have to chew chew chew or you will through it right back up . that happened to me alot  LOL
BUT you have to do what YOUR DR says..
This is only what  did and what worked for me ..
hugs and blessings

Sam

I agree on the advice to call your nutrionist.  Each practice is different.  Mine had a very specific plan for the last week before surgery, before that it was a more general plan.  I followed both exactly, and have done well so far.  My surgeon's office had a meeting where such things were discussed about 2 weeks before surgery.

Good luck on your surgery!
