Combating Regain? How did your week go?

TGIF!

I'm on a roll at the moment and the momentum is keeping me more on than off track and even with the death of a close relative and subsequent trip to NY to attend funeral services, I still stayed true to my plan of good food choices and exercise.

I think that if I just tough it out, doing what I know I must, it makes for continued progress, for instance, I generally have my workout schedule planned for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday, with housework and/or other things as another form of activity.  Well with having to go to NY Monday night after working (went home from work, packed clothing and food to take with me, to make sure I had what was necessary to stay on track), I was not able to workout on Tuesday due to the activities surrounding my Great Aunt's services, I did not get home until late Tuesday evening, but set my alarm for 4:40 on Wednesday to make up for what I did not get done on Tuesday, when the alarm went off, I just could not get out of bed, so I was now down one day.  Barix support group happened to be that night and so because it is summer and traffic is lighter than usual (I work about 50+ miles from Barix) I got up there an hour plus early, knowing that I had gym clothes in my car, and there being a Planet Fitness less than 5 minutes from Barix, I decided it was a good opportunity to get a workout in.  It sure did boost my good feeling about where I am going.

I am also happy to report that I am 3 lbs. lighter than I was a month ago and so my sweat equity, paired with better food choices, is paying off.

Part of this journey for me, is that piece of self-motivation, making things work, as most of my life was about excuses, either real or manufactured.  So for the past week, there were no excuses, just choices to be made and I choose to make the right ones.

Hope you had a good week and if it was less than you wanted it to be, hey, you know what?  You can start your day or week over again!

Have a great weekend!

Laureen

Way to go Laureen!!

I don't get to post often because by the time I get home from work (I view from work but don't post), I pretty much have computer overload but I look at all of your posts and those on the Over 50 board and you all are inspiring.

When I went for my 1 year follow up with the surgeon and dietitican, I gained 14 pounds.  I had an adjustment in meds and started getting more consistent with exercise instead of trying to do 2 hours in the gym one night and not go for another 3.  That was July 13th and I got rid of 5 of those pounds.

One piece of advice my NUT gave me was if you are to lose 1 pound a week, don't weigh yourself every day since 1/7th of a pound won't show up and you will frustrate yourself.  I have had more good days than bad since then and am just taking it one day at a time.  It isn't sweets or junk food, sometimes it is just a day where I forget my lunch or snacks but most days I have been making it a rule to not eat anything I don't have at my desk or didn't bring.

One day at a time, one meal at a time, one snack at a time.   Even though I haven't gotten down to my goal, this was the first summer I didn't have to buy a new wardrobe because everything was too tight.  Things fit or were too big which was a good thing.

I have come to the conclusion that this obesity beast won't be defeated--all we can do is manage it and tell it who is boss.

Have a great weekend as well!!

Laureen,
Sorry to hear about your Great Aunt. I've missed your posts this week. The week was good. I've been taking one action at a time and last week it was to finally cut out the extra small bowl of cereal (Kasha Go lean High Protein with some granola) before bed. I really don't need it. But went to my mom's this weekend where there are just too many goodies and not enough structure, so I made bad choices. But I did exercise. And am back home. Have all my breakfasts, lunches, and snacks for worked all packed and in the fridge for the week, and my exercise schedule worked out.

One of the hardest things for me is when I get home from work and just want to start eating. Hubby and I carpool, and last week, we started discussing a plan for when I get home on what I would do to combat my random snacking. We will continue that every day this week, and I think that will help a lot.

Hugs!
