Hump Day, Wednesdays Wonders Whats UP?
Good morning OFFville!
I am one happy camper this morning! Last night I played "closet" again and I can wear my size 18's! I'm almost entirely down into "normal" sizes again! I culled through and pulled out everything left that was a size 2X and most of the things that are a size 1X. So now I am left with size 18's and XL tops and pants. One of these days I'm not going to have a single "X" left in my closet!
I had a really good coupon for Land's End to use by yesterday, so I got on-line and ordered 2 pair of size 18 pants, a pair of shorts, and a new sleep tee. I need some vacay clothes for our trip to Canada next month. I already had a pair of nice navy slacks in size 18 in my closet, so now I will have 3 pairs of pants to take on vacation: navy, khaki, and brown.
I also had 4 pairs of almost new size 18 capris in my closet. And I had 4 almost new v-neck tees from L.L.Bean! I can also finally wear my khaki skirt from L.L.Bean again (size 20, but their stuff runs small), and I have my new denim skirt from cjbanks that SAYS it's an 18W, but it runs very small, too. Hopefully, I'll be able to wear it by vacation. I can get in it, but the pockets pull open right now.
So far, I'm getting through my transition without having to spend too much on new clothes. I did have to buy some new underwear last month. The old ones were so big! And I desperately need a new bra. I've been wearing those sports bras all summer because I don't want to go through the headache of trying to find a "real" bra.
Got another full day ahead of me today. Got a haircut at 10:30 a.m. But I think my hair has all but quit growing. I've been expecting it to fall out (it did last time I had WLS in 1993), but that hasn't happened yet. However, it sure hasn't grown much. I think just a light trim will do it for today.
Then more mowing this afternoon. I've just got to push myself to do that part. It's so bloomin' HOT here. You can just feel it coming at you in waves.
Good friend of mine has a new grandson, but he came 2 months early. I'm crocheting some preemie baby things for her this week. They're going to see him this weekend. If you can, say a prayer for Baby Eli. His little lungs are underdeveloped.
Hoping to hear from hubby soon. He send me an email once he makes it safely to the rig so that I can relax and stop worrying.
Well, I need to shake a leg. Got to get myself into town for that haircut soon. Love you all!

I'm at work trying to make what files I have last until noon! The gal who brings me work is off this week so she left me what she could.
The guys from church did an awesome job trimming the shrubs and my Japanese Maple - the J.maple looks a bit bare but it was way overgrown, and I'm sure it will fill in again. It was growing into the roof of my patio cover -- bad! They sprayed for weeds around the house and even pulled out some stuff that was growing that shouldn't be there. I had swedish ivy climbing all over the back of the house and that is now all gone and the roots have been treated with weed killer. They also cleaned the gutters. I supervised!
Have to make a macaroni salad for a funeral luncheon - think I will buy from local deli and doctor it up a bit. Don't keep pasta in my house anymore.
better get busy now -- have a great day all,
Pat R.

Done! Your Ticker:
Post Script: Okay, I just need to face it! I am NOT in the mood to mow again today. Instead I'm in the mood to make pickles! So I went to the store and bought cukes and supplies and I'm ready to spend a very pleasant afternoon in my kitchen. I have 2 dill pickle recipes, and I'm going to make both kinds. One takes 5 days and the other only take 2 days. I also have a wonderful 14-day sweet pickle recipe, but I guess I won't make that kind anymore. Nobody in my family likes sweet pickles but me, and I can't eat the sugar anymore.
I'm also going to try a new dish tonight: osso buco. Has anyone ever made that? They had the veal shank in the discounted meat bin at Krogers. I love the discounted meat bin. I get all sorts of good buys on meat there. This veal shank was marked down to $3.50! Can't beat that price with a stick.
Monica, will you please share your recipe for that veggie ragu you mentioned on FB the other day? That sounded so yummy.
Hope everyone can stay inside and stay cool today. The dog days of summer are upon us!

We love the discounted meat area too. Hubby was a butcher for over 20 years, we know to look on Sunday or Monday's for reduced meat specials. Can't beat some of the deals, especially on veal, since the meat turns "green" so quickly, as it gets better.
Veggie ragu can consist of whatever fresh and canned veggie's you want in it. I take a large pan, put in a little extra virgin olive oil and then add:
garlic, garlic, garlic
cut up or sliced:small pieces or medium setting on mandolin
squash
onions
red, green, yellow peppers
green beans
mushrooms
egg plant sometimes
saute over hot to simmer to sear-cover for @ 10 mins
ADD
more garlic, little salt, pepper, also added some hot pepper flakes this time, fresh basil chopped up, ground oregano, fennel seeds, parsley
turned up the heat and added some good balsamic vinegar for sharpness.
Mixed well and often for another 10 min. Shut it off and let it sit. Added 1 can Hunts roasted tomatoes and 1 can well drained white beans. Mixed and left in pan until cool. Drained veggies and reserved the liquid. Reduced the liquid by half. Put liquid in frig to make fat solid up to peel off and discard. Put
veggies in frig overnight, poured liquid (not much left of that) over mix and then dole out into small freezer bags, label, and freeze. When I want to munch I take one out and it defrosts quicky. I eat this as is, put it on a samwhich, over small serving of pasta, or if the dreaded good BREAD has been invited into the house, on thin slices of bread, sprinkle cheese on top and eat as brusheda.
Delicious and so satisfying. Sounds like alot of work, but so this all within an hour or less and it lasts for about a week...would last longer since it is in freezer, but I eat it.
Could add whatever you want, meat too. Just handy to have around.

Hi Monica and my OFF family:
What's this hump day thing? I don't know about that (well, I do, but I don't have hump days). This is my day off, so I slept til noon, or nearly noon. After a protein shake for breakfast, I'm finally getting through my first cup of coffee, and it's after 2 p.m. I'm still in my jammies. Got ice packs on my knee because it hurts. It's 96 degrees out, feels like 104, so I'm just chillin' inside. That's the report from my corner of the world.
I didn't get home til nearly 1 this morning. I had the local pages to do for Lafayette and the editor didn't get the stories in til late, so I had a lot to do ... I was the second to last to leave. I got done in time, but felt like I was holding everyone up. So then I didn't get to sleep til nearly 4 a.m.
We got a new young woman who started last night, but then one of our other young women is leaving. So we'll still be down one. Can't keep 'em. I think the fact the center is closing in 2013 doesn't help.
Well, I haven't read any of the posts yet, so I guess I'll do that. I have a feeling I'm just going to veg today. I'm watching the White Sox game right now. I was sitting here awhile ago, before I went to make coffee, when I heard this loud noise. Couldn't figure out what it was. Well, it turned out a can of Diet Coke froze and exploded in the fridge. What a mess. I spent a while cleaning that up.
Anyway, have a good day.
