Tuesday Musings!

Happy Tuesday! We Canadians enjoyed a lovely weekend for July 1st, CANADA DAY, and now my American friends celebrate your Fourth of July!  We live so close to the Ontario, Canada/NY border that I get to see fireworks on BOTH holidays! Luckily, Zeus, our 175 pound rottie is not to concerned about the fireworks..maybe because he is getting old and  slower…like me....maybe selective hearing...not unlike DH…sheesh! I don’t post much lately..so busy doing research and writing for my website.I will be featured on Inspirational Tranformational, an international website …did my interview last month on video/YouTube so writing for that website has been challenging.  Last night, it took me a number of hours to write my bio for them..I was not at all sure what exactly they wanted so I just started typing.  Apparently it was okay, the interviewer was very pleased. I am headed down to Albany on Wed, by train and back home late Sat. evening…will be busy facilitating workshops.  I make this trip alone each year..seven hours each way.  I always take the Business Coach so that I have lots of room to stretch my legs and keep them moving....with lymphodema in both, sitting too cramped in the regular coach is just too uncomfortable for me. Besides, it’s usually nice and quiet in that car….always at the very back of the train.  I get a “senior’s discount” since I’m over 62  and I request assistance getting onboard and off. And I relax, reading, meditation, crocheting & occasionally chatting now and then.  I leave lots of food in the freezers for the guys….they never starve! I’m careful to take snacks along….most “train food” is pricey and full of fat & carbs. I get all the tea/water I want at no charge and since I never feel hunger, I have to make sure that I keep hydrated. This week I’ve signed up for another Certification course…this time, HOSPICE WORK… and I’ve been asked to be on the Board of Directors for this particular hospice..they are a very non-judgmental hospice allowing all the holistic modalities to be used as the residents want.  I met with the Executive Director  for lunch and we talked for hours.  She is very excited about my Spiritual Certifications and also about my Mandala work to assist their residents and their families. When I got back home that afternoon, I found a request from a psychotherapist who has come across my Mandala Coluring Books and asked for some for her clients. She also requested a custom package on “self-awareness and self acceptance” which will also be used for particular clients of hers...that is about 70 % completed now.  I can custom design a package for most any issue her clients have. Another thing this week – I got my hair cut again..this time VERY short in the back…I needed to get all that thick hair off my neck…..it’s just too darned hot! So now I guess I will have to start washing my neck!! This is the shortest I've ever had since I was sixteen…last summer I had two feet cut off…donated that for wigs for cancer survivors...I’ve always been able to sit on it.  So it’s short at the back…long and curly on the sides. The only one who doesn’t LOVE it, is hubby….men and long hair! I sat on my verandah yesterday and watched eastwards across the 100 acre vineyard as my oldest son Danny took off from the airport for his first flight! He is going for his Pilot’s licence and wants to build his own plane.  Of course all I could really see was a small shape and I could HEAR the engine but I sat there until I knew his flight was over, heart pounding!  He told me later that he had total control of the plane, did all the radio calls, got it up off the ground, flew for an hour then had to land, apparently they use foot pedals to steer….good grief!  He had expected to be given the reins after the instructor got them up in the air. Apparently the instructor was very pleased. But I’m not at all surprised…Dan tends to excel at everything he tries….always had….still, Mom was very nervous! Well, best I get to bed…it’s quarter to two and I have to organize myself and pack for my mini-vacation. It’s darned hot here and I hear it’s even hotter in Albany, though not as humid as we have it, sitting between two Great Lakes and the Niagara River. Thank goodness for A/C! Please enjoy your successes, learn from any mistakes, be kind to each other and be safe! Nancy B

Nancy -  Gees, I wonder where your son gets his drive and capabilities from!  You are one busy, creative  woman.  I love the idea of your working with a hospice.   You are an inspiration to all of us and the employees and residents of the hospice will benefit from your work.

Lest our American friends think that all Canadians are as driven and creative as you are, I am spending my vacation being a slug and doing as little as possible.

However, yesterday I pulled up the carpet from my long hallway in my colonial-style home.  I have lived here for almost four years, and have wanted to rip up that carpet since I first walked in the door.  Under the carpet is hardwood; it's in need of some repair, but it doesn't look bad.  The rest of the house is all hardwood, and I have two more rooms to do.  I still have 5  weeks left of vacation, so it should be done by September.  (don't want to push myself too much!)

During the rip-up, my two supervisors couldn't decide if they wanted to lie on the carpet that I was trying to take off or get in my way in some other dramatic fashion.  Those dogs think that they are my boss.  What a hoot they are!

I went to a Zumba class for the first time last night  -  I loved it!  I love dancing and the salsa, Cuban, hip hop music really got the class going.  It was a little hard on my back, but everything seems to be hard on my back, so I might as well do what I really enjoy and deal with the pain later.  I plan on going back.
Today's agenda includes a chiropractic appointment and then coming home to clean the house and play with the dogs if it's not too hot.  Otherwise, I'll just have a nap   and read.  Ah, summer vacation, how I love it.

Everyone, have a good day and try to keep cool.

Hi Margaret,
My dog likes to help me make the bad after I wash the sheets.  He parks himself in the middle of the bed, and I make it over him, then he comes out and I make it with him laying on top of things.  He is oblivious to what I am trying to do.

Enjoy your helpers.

Hugs,
Trish

Good Morning Nancy,
What an inspiration you are.  I always wanted to work with hospice patients.  When I was getting my social work degree, I had to visit a hospital and hear from a hospice chaplain.  It got me thinking.

Yesterday, I had too much fun.  My daughter and I took the Munchkins to Sesame Place, an amusement park near here that is based on Sesame Street.  My granddaughter wanted me to go on the roller coaster with her.  It was a gentle one, since most of the kids are little.  I screamed anyway.  My granddaughter put her hands in the air like a brave girl.  We had fun.  Then, we went to a show where we got to see the characters put together a rock group, and the kids were dancing and singing in the aisles.  After that, we went to two different rides, but Lincoln wanted his Mommy, so I got out of line and he went on the ride with his Mommy and sister.  He looked so scared on the ride, but smiled afterward.  Finally, we got a seat near the parade route and got to see the parade and then a fireworks show.  The crowd leaving was massive, and took a long time.

I was supposed to work today, but my stomach feels so queasy, I called out.  I am still training for my social work responsibilities at the hospital.  Tonight, I have a therapy appointment.  I have some more research to do before my session, and I have to get some questions answered.

Have a safe trip.

Hugs,
Trish

Nancy, do you have a website for all of your work? Sounds fascinating!!! You know that I absolutely LOVE NOTL - was last there in August 2010. We rented a house and had kids visit during our son's leave at home from Afghanistan. They did the falls, kids' activities, etc. while we walked everywhere, toured farm stands, etc. I've already been to several wineries (but don't drink any more) and had a few theater weekends there.

Today is back to work for me. My goal is to be productive yet balanced. If I get a full 4-5 hours in it should put me in a better space. I still fight distractions and procrastination where my work is concerned - I know it is not "the job" for me but it offers unmatched flexibility in many ways and the salary allows us to do some nice things. So it's worth the trade - I just have to reach deep for the motivation I need.

The antidepressant seems to be helping in that I am not so foggy and overwhelmed all the time.

It was a great 4th of July weekend. Mike was here and we enjoyed 3 days of kicking back - beach time, a dinner out for some great fish, sleeping in, watched a movie (Money Never Sleeps), and just bombing around FL. He had to leave yesterday so I spent a few hours at the beach reading and enjoying people watching. "My" little stretch of beach isn't too busy, and I was able to return at night and watch the fireworks. The interesting thing is that from our location, we could see bursts of fireworks from Marco Island, the big ones at Naples, and then on up the coast to Fort Myers and even some sparkles from Sanibel Island!

Best of days to all of you!!!

Let's see if you see fireworks from Marco Island and Naples, to the South it seems, and up the coast to Fort Myers and Sanibel,  where are you?  Bonita Sprins?  Fort Myers Beach?  Hmm

Morning all...sober 246 days and so proud of me.
We had a really super weekend. Lots going on here at RV park for all ages to enjoy. I overcame my OCDing of going to the fireworks. Yeah!! We left home at 5, drove to downtown Sarasotata and we were able to find parking across from the park where the party was. Got parked and then it poured for almost 45 mins. I MEAN poured with tons of lightening and thunder and black black sky. Then it cleared. Hubby & I both took little naps listening to the rain. We then walked over to the park, got something to eat, and found a super viewing area. The fireworks exploded almost directly overhead and were spectacular and long. I took lots of pictures and will try and post on FB. I was relaxed and very happy. Hubby was very patient with leaving in traffic jam and we were last out of the road. Got home and Yoda was very glad we were back, he did fine.
Going to lay back today and tackle bank and SS tomorrow. Wish me luck and help. Will need to get in touch with Lynn and Carla to finalize our plans for a face to face visit.
Hope all enjoy their Tuesday plans. So sad that Bev has the DIL from He++ problems. Speaking and opening her heart to her son on this womens horrific treatment will not be nice, maybe conter-productive, but needs to be done. This DIL is toxic, I bet in MANY ways.
Hugs, Monica

Good Morning, OFFville!

Today I have so many "must do's" on my list, I'm having a hard time prioritizing them!  But first, I need to get something off my chest.  They say that confession is good for the soul.  I hope it's good for the waistline as well!  Yesterday I had a totally CARB day!  I didn't intend to.  But over the course of the day I had 3 bagels thins, some Doritos, and a half a bag of kettle corn!  I just couldn't stop eating/nibbling/snacking on carbs.  Ack!  I felt so out of control!  And I had a little binge on cherries, too!

I woke up this morning with a new resolve to do better!  I already know that if something "forbidden" is in the house, I'm going to eat it.  The kettle corn was my DH's.  He ate half the bag and left.  So I came home last night and ate the other half of the bag because I was feeling sad that he was gone.  That's crazy.  I have to get my head back in the game today.

Well, today I need to pay bills, go to the store, mow grass, and call the vet about Patty Kate and her itching!  Poor lil baby!  She was on that medicine for a month and she had stopped itching, but now the medicine is all gone and she's back itching again.  Maybe I need a new vet!  This one can't seem to figure out what's wrong.

I really, really need to make a start on the mowing today, but--get this--it rained here last night!  Of all things.  Grateful for the rain, but it makes it very difficult to mow early in the day when it's not so hot.  My grass (weeds) is so thick and wet this morning.  I don't believe I can mow it until it dries out some.  It'll be over 100 F by noon here.  I don't think I'm that tough.

Got a Board meeting to prepare for on Saturday.  I'm the Secretary/Treasurer for the Property Owner's Assoc. at our other lake house, the one that's close by here.  I haven't looked at any of that stuff since our last Board meeting in May.  Going to take me awhile to get ready for that meeting, and it's already Tuesday.  I feel behind before I ever get started.

I also have to try and figure out WTH's wrong with the internet connection on my big computer today.  I need to pay bills and I do much of that on-line these days.  All my financial records are on the big home computer, not my little laptop here.  Sigh.

Heard from DH.  He made it to Amsterdam just fine last night.  Next time I hear from him, he'll be on the rig in Saudi.  Boy, you just think it's hot here!  It gets to about 125 F over there during the day!  It gets so hot that if the guys lay a tool down on the metal deck and then forget and pick it back up bare-handed, they get burned!  I'm grateful that hubby is a supervisor and spends most of his time indoors on the computer now.  Feel sorry for those roughnecks and deckhands!

So, busy day.  No time to sit and crochet today.  Glad to hear that Nancy B. is back to her normal, unbelievably busy self!  Trish, can't wait to have some fun times with my little Benny like you are having with the munchkins!  Grateful for Monica's wonderful 246 days!  Margaret, you just kick back and enjoy your vacation days.  Sounds like a plan to me!  Lynn, sounds like a wonderful 4th of July celebration to me.  Oh, and on the subject of Bev's DIL from hell--what goes around, comes around.  Doesn't make things any easier for Bev right now, but I believe in divine justice.  One day DIL's actions will be revisited upon her own self.

Well, day's a-wastin'!  Love you all!
