OT: Paying it forward
Needing to share something good I did years ago with a Veteran and how he is doing something good for me now.
When we arrived at this RV resort, I wasn't in the best place in my life. I was and still am dedicated to my being sober and take such pride in each day. I have slowly returned to who and what Monica is really about. I am happy and smile, giggle, make jokes, approach and speak with people, vanity about my body that I have worked so hard to finally have abounds, wearing sexy-eye catching clothes and not caring about the stares-good or not so good.
On Veterans Day the RV resort had a huge party for Veterans, spouses, and family members. John was not feeling great, back out, sciatica inflamed, grouchy. I was still the all pent up, OCDing Monica afraid to leave the RV and meet the world. But we had to go to the party.
We chose a table in the crowded RV restaurant. The party was full of people, visiting with each other. We knew no one, and that was OK. Upon sitting down, I noticed a man across the room. I recognized him. I finally made up my mind and approached him, his wife and the others sitting at his table. I asked if got his VA care in Northampton MA. He said no. I pressed him again and introduced myself, saying my name, and telling him that I used to weigh 330 lbs and felt deeply that I knew him and helped him get his VA disability compensation. Recognition hit him and began to cry, he jumped up and hugged me. Then he introduced me to his wife and friends and explained that he did go to Northampton VA I was talking about years earlier. He went on & on about what I had done for him, how I pushed him into getting back into the mind frame of the warrior he had to be in Nam, to fight for his rightful compensation for the injuries seen and not seen done to his body. I was so happy to see him after all these years, that he was doing well, married to his high school girlfriend after being separated, married, divorced, 30 some years later. He now lived in Fl during winter and upper state NY in summer.
Off and on during the winter we ran into each other. This place is huge. We weren't getting out alto due to John's health issues. This veteran had knee replacement surgery and was laid up from the end of Jan until middle of March. As he, hubby, and I felt better we saw more of him.
We talked about him filing for more benefits and his wife, lovely Bev with legs to die for, urged me to talk to him to urge him on. He helped hubby move some stuff and hubby helped him do some stuff to pack up their home for summer.
Yesterday, as per my post, was important, trying, stressful, and long. Dave & Bev came over to make sure all was going well. I told them about the stolen items and stayed with me for awhile until security arrived. Now they were in the mist of closing up their home as they leave early Sunday morning, busy stuff. A little while later Dave came back and told me he wanted us to have the use of his custom made golf cart for the entire summer until they return in Dec. I was floored, speechless and said I couldn't put a possible liability situation in his life. He would not take NO. His only request is that we put a rider on our insurance policy for complete coverage. When John came back with the stolen stuff, Dave was still here and Bev had come over too. Dave told John what he intented to do and that his mind was made up. John asked why they would take such a possible risk. Dave said that without my insisting he pursue his compensation, many aspects of his retired life would be different, very different.
We are both humbled and honored to have this mans trust and love. Now we can really save BIG $$$$ not having to use the diesel truck to run all over the resort, I said it huge.
Happy, tired going to bed soon, but had to share a gift of Paying it Forward works and can come back to you.
Hugs, Monica of the Traveling Bra and Infantry Blue custom golf cart. Toot Toot

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.
