OT:Northern migration..Beware

Heads up all. The northern migration of snowbirds begins in earnest this weekend. Our resort has 3000 people during the winter. A very multinational diverse family. Over 400 are heading out this wkend and lots have left already.
So BEWARE.....just as the caribou move from winter to summer grounds so do these RVers. The Canadians must swipe their drivers licenses every 6 months to qualify for the free health care so they are aleaving.
Now this is just ONE campground in FL. Think about the thousands heading north. Be extra vigilant on the highways and byways when traveling. These large vehicles take extra space and time to stop, don't cut in a lane and expect to fit real quick and safely. These vehicles can't stop like a charging bison. I know!! Use your blinkers, merge carefully, stay off the cell phones, check your side mirrors. Make your trip and theirs safer. Kindness, respect, courtesy affects all. And thats all I have to say about that.

I see that everyday.  We have accidents everday come in to the ER from I 75 cause of careless driver in I-75. 
With me driving a small car I have to be extra careful with the big rigs. But I drive a big truck and a rig my self so I know what you are talking about. Carla

My parents were snowbirds for years. They wintered on South Padre Island in Texas and summered in NY state.

They really hated Spring Break on SPI. Too many kids acting like idiots and getting hurt or killed!

Monica, what part of FL are you in? We just bought a condo in Naples, which is a vacation home for now but we hope to make a retirement home as soon as we can! I won't mind FL year round - have been there often during the hot season.

I know that our FL neighbors are leaving beginning in early April.

My in laws are AZ snowbirds from California. We worry about them driving a big rig at their ages and with health issues....but there is no stopping them! And who knows, it probably keeps them going in more ways than one!

 Wow you are only about 120 miles south of me. I am in Bradenton and Monica is about 10 miles south of me in Sarasota. Carla /sorry Monica I answered for you!!!!!! have car will travel!!!!!

Carla, when was your surgery? Looks like you are a real veteran! I am coming up on 2 years out and am keeping my ears to the ground for success tips from those ahead of me on this path!

 My surgery was in February of 2002. So I am almost 10 years out. Wow I cant believe that is was so long ago!!!!! Carla

We are in Sarasota, not too far from Naples. We have loved it here these past 5 months and I am really wanting to stay here for the summer with diesel prices going up.

Monica, I know what you mean about gas prices. This is a real consideration for my in-laws too, as they are planning to drive out to see us in PA this summer.

How wonderful to have a place in Naples..such a  lovely city..we visit there every winter while down south from our northern home.  :  }
