Hello, I have been browsing OH for a month or so now. I haven't had my surgery. And I was denied by my insurance. I sent an appeal on March 1 2011. I was very confident to receive my approval. And today is the day I got the call I have been approved. So just waiting for surgeon office to call to set date fro surgery. I am numb, a happy numb, but can't shake it off. Need to get focus and get ready for the next step. I am 52 yrs, I am to have the duodenal switch. I have been sending posts, messages, etc..but I am a bit overwhelmed. there is so much and I am dizzy bouncing all over the forums trying to get info. Some is great, some is N/A I just looking for advise as to which forum will be best for me. I think I am getting mixed up jumping from one to another. And now that i will be soon having the surgery,I would like to get stable and take i step at a time. Learn things on a need to know basis to prevent confusing myself, trying to keep it all straight. I get these seniors moments, just like to keep it to a minimum. I know I have a bumpy road from here on and need to have a reliable link to look to for support. Thanks for any responses, suggestions, advise etc. God Bless Sharon

Hi Sharon,

I am 53 and had my RNY done just 3 weeks ago.  I joined this group about week before that.  I can tell you that this is a fabulous group of ladies!  SO warm and caring and supportive of one another.  First time I came here, I felt right at home.  I hope you will stay!  You will be very welcome here!

Best of luck with your surgery plans!  Please keep us posted.

Hi there, Welcome aboard. I've not been at this forum long either, but I have really felt encouraged by the ladies here. They really do care about everybody. Looking forward to getting to know them better. Glad you posted. I had my RNY 2months ago so I can't give advice on your type of surgery. Still I am very happy for you. Getting approval for your surgery.    Mag

Sharon,

I have been hanging out here on the Over Fifty Forum for about 7 years now. It is a great support group which gives and receives. Hope you come back often, get to know us and let us get to know you.

It CAN be overwhelming especially leading up to the surgery itself. Once I had my RNY I figured it was a done deal as the saying goes and I just plugged along. I would do it again in a heart beat. I am so much healthier and happier than I was before surgery in 2005 at age 55 when I weighed 377 lbs. Best wishes!

Welcome Sharon and all you will get is support on this forum.
We don't kick people down, no matter what type of surgery you have.
We are older and hold no judgment. So if you want support and wellness you will find it here.
We don't have a Jr. High mentality, we are all adults and have a life outside this forum.

May you have a speedy recovery and continue on your path to a healthy lifestyle change. Debbie

I had my RNY back in October of 2006 and would do it again in a heartbeat!!! :-) My only regret is I didn't have it sooner!!! I am now 58 years old and living a fun life again!!!

You didn't mention where you are from...mind if I ask?

Again...WELCOME!!! And hang on!!! Its a wild ride!!!!
