Maui Karen,

If you can please let us know you are safe and any others that might be affected by this terrible event happening in the Pacific Coastal region.

Prayers going out for all affected from Japan to our shores. . .

Laureen, Here in WA the expected tsunami surge has been little out of the ordinary winter high waves so far. Not to say it can't happen. Cindy P lives in Newport, OR. Wondering about how they are faring and of course Maui Karen and Sue M are at the top of my list.

Morning Laureen
I'm in Sacramento CA..bout 85 mile inland and just north of San Francisco.  What I've heard so far is Santa Cruz marina got tossed around quite a bit, this is about, oh 50 miles south of San Francisco.  Crescent City, which is way up North, got some high waves I hear, some damage but not bad.  We were all lucky...everybody had plenty of time to get to higher ground.  The Great Highway in San Francisco, which follows the coast line, north of Golden Gate Park, was closed this morning as well as the beach...but nothing reported so far on the news broadcasts regarding anything out of the ordinary.  I heard one of the marinas/ports on Maui had at least 2-7ft surges come in, some boats broke their moorings...but radio news isn't being specific. :-(
Hope we hear from Karen soon!
Prayers up for all!

Thanks Judy..but I certainly don't want to hear you are stressing over us! So far, I've only heard of 1 person missing on the West Coast, from Calif to Washington.,   Listening to the news tonight, it seems some areas here on the West Coast did suffer some sever damage...Crescent City, up at the Northern end of the state, suffered sever damage along the beaches ( only 1 person known to be missing...a man who got too close on the beach and was pulled out to sea when the waves retreated).  Half Moon Bay harbor, below San Francisco suffered 17million dollars of wharf damage and that's not counting all the boats and yachts damaged.
While the property damage is awful...we can be thankful that people had time to get to high ground...it is just so sad to see the devastation in Japan..and the growing number in deaths.
It is truly a humbling situation...between God and Mother Nature...their power is truly awesome. We need to keep praying for those so sadly affected by all this.

Aloha my sweet friends.......It's 9:00 a.m. on Maui and the tsunami warning has just been lifted. Would you believe I slept through the whole thing???? I had 7 calls on my phone this morning from family, friends, etc. Maui wa****especially on the north shore. The Kahului (Karen C will know this) harbor was damaged extensively. It is near the airport, so no flights in or out.

I went out on my lanai and saw that a wave had come over the wall and placed debris about 15 feet onto the lawn. Lucky we have a wall and then grass between us and ocean. I feel so sorry for those in Japan and other places that were crushed by this thing. All our roads are closed, schools, and government buildings. I guess I won't be going anywhere today.

Way back when I lived through the 7.1 quake in Santa Cruz and that was a doozy........everything flew out of frige......TV's flew across the room, cars "danced" in the carport. This 9.1 is said to be something like 2000 times more energy. I can't even imagine.

Thank you all so much for your concern. I love you all for that TLC you give to all who are in trouble.

Warning has been lifted...so I might go for a walk to the harbor....see what happened there. I'll let you know. Plus, I need milk!! There is a teeny tiny store at the harbor. I'll bet all the milk is gone. Thanking Higher Power for safety today.

Aloha nui loa,

Maui Karen

Thank you for checking in and letting us know you are safe, it is a very sad day for those in Japan for sure and anyone else that was in the path of destruction. . .  but I am truly glad to know you were not affected (or any others that are West Coast folks).

Love Laureen
