Where did my eyelids go???

Just wondering where and when my eyelids disappeared? I used to have nice firm visible eyelids, a place to put color and sparkle. Now I have skin that folds, droops, and covers this lids. Maybe it is a protection measure taken by Mother Nature.
When the pollen is high the lids even swell more....very attractive NOT.

Monica thanks for the chuckle, amazing what Mother Nature does to protect us. . .  like making sure all things run south and not for winter. . .  oh yeah, well maybe the winter of our days

Monica, I know what you mean - I see mine drooping more and more.  I remember when my Mom had to have surgery for this.  Not for vanity, but because it can interfer with your vision.   By now I can't even count how many surgeries I've had, but I'll bet this one will be in my future someday.

Hey Monica,
I agree with Jan. AND, if your vision is impared by heavy lids, Medicare and most insurance plans cover it as a medical necessity. Mine would have been covered, but I didn't want to wait any longer....lol

I had mine done 4 years ago.  Covered by insurance, because they were drooping so bad that my eyelashes were catching in them and my peripheral vision was also affected.  I loved the way they turned out, but they could almost be done again.  I didn't want them done so tight that I always looked surprised, but they're starting to sag again....

I can still see the eye makeup, tho, so I'm not ready to go under the knife again.  Or ever, bar an emergency.....

Aloha dear Monica.......I had to chuckle because I, too, am victim of the droopy eyelids. Also, about five years ago I had my eyeliner on upper and lower lid TATOOED on, and they are nice and light brown, BUT my eyelid covers the tattoo now, too!! Even had my eyebrows tattooed so I could go in the water and never lose my liner, mascara, etc. Love the permanent brows and liner, BUT now my lids are covering them up!! Oh dear....not another surgery.

After my eyes heal, I might.......MIGHT.....talk to eye doc about removing that extra skin. I've had extra skin removed from belly and that wasn't a big deal. I wonder if eyelid removal would be as easy.

Hummmmm....got me thinking now.

Aloha nui loa,

Dear Friends, The voice of experience checking in here. My dad had deep set eyes and my mom lots of excess skin above the lids. I had my first eyelid excess skin removal about 10 years ago and it dearly needs to be done again. When I went to the doctor last year they said the right eye was ready (ie: insurance coverage) but the left wasn't quite there. So do I do one and leave the other because of the cost? NOT! Thought I'd look like the one eyed guy in "Goonies!" So I wait. My lashes get caught and it definitely affects my already not great vision.  It was NOT painful but I did look like a RACCOON for about a week. I used bags of frozen peas to help the swelling. Refreeze over and over and then don't drip.   don't recommend eating them later however!!

BTW, this is an out patient procedure.  My husband had it done and I waited in the clinic, then we stopped and looked at new cars, afterward. He did have black eyes, but not too badly. His was covered by insurance, due to visual impairment.  I am sure once my weight comes off, he will be the one in the clinic waiting for me.
