Checking in from Maui.....
Aloha and good morning special people.....
Welcome to all the newcomers. I am an "oldtimer" who has been MIA for awhile but I come in and spend time with you all almost every day.
This mornng on Maui it is overcast and threatening to rain again. We LOVE it!! However, that makes it very humid (80 degrees) at 7:50 a.m. I actually cover all my electronics when not using because the salt air and humidity just eats them up. So my TVs, my computer all have their "clothes"....ha.
It has been several months now since the whales returned and they are magnificent as always. I can sit on my lanai and watch them leaping and birthing and playing. I never cease to be in awe of such magic. Several babies have been born in our bay and we often see mother and baby playing together...sometimes daddy nearby.
On the health front, I am doing great in some ways, and a little iffy in others. I'm still weighing in at 168 after almost five years out, (started at 320!) and seem to be able to eat anything I like, but I try to keep it healthy.
Recently I had cataract surgery on my R eye, and it came out fabulously......20/20 and clear without glasses for the first time in my life. However, three days ago I had left eye surgery and I am having complications with that. The doc cut into an old radial keratotomy scar in my eye and had to stitch that closed and the stitches have to stay in a few weeks. So I am not seeing out of left eye, and it feels like I have a pebble in the middle of my eye......weeping and crusting over at night. It's not comfortable, but doc says after a few weeks when the stitches come out, I should be able to see again very good. That was such a relief....I was afraid I was going to lose sight in that eye.
Thankfully my right eye lets me see and some old glasses have the right correction for up close, and I can use computer and read.
Keep up the good work all of you newcomers. This is the best place in the world to come for support and TLC. I cannot tell you how much the wonderful people on this site helped me through many years.
Here comes a big Aloha hug to all of my friends who have been faithfully supporting and sharing their lives with us all frequently.
So, now I'm going to go lay down and shut my eyes. My eye discomfort is small potatoes in the big scheme of things. Mostly I am grateful for my life......profoundly grateful.
Aloha nui loa my OFF friends,
Maui Karen

Aloha Dear Peg.......Just seeing that smile and your red hat makes me happy. Thank you for the good vibes. My eye today is not quite as uncomfortable as it was yesterday so I know there is healing going on, and I do have ONE good eye!!
Trip to Calif. in January was better than last year. My three little ones were a bunch of bouncing balls, but they kept me busy and away from food....Ha. I always seem to lose 10 lbs. when I do my babysitting alone. Three little boys will keep my son and DIL young. I went to bed when they did...8:00.....

Aloha neighbor! How wonderful to have an OFF sister right next door. That hasn't happened before.
Yes, we did get some pounding rain on Maui and I, too, actually put on long pants and a sweatshirt....and then had a throw over my legs as I couch potatoed yesterday. Ha.
This morning it is glorious sunshine so far. Too bright actually for my bad eye. I have to keep it covered because the sunlight hurts. Hopefully that will all go away when the stitches come out.
I look forward to getting to know you better. Where are you on your WLS adventure?
