It was made up by a WLS patient, forgot her name. It's to help you get "reacquainted with your pouch". It's only for 5 days and there is some site it's posted on. Needless to say I'm not a fan of this. Why? Because people usually can't complete the 5 days and then they feel like a failure.

So what I recommend to some people is that I do believe you can "detox your body of sugar and carbs" but it doesn't have to be 5 days. 3 days is good. Heck, I remember my step grandma only drinking liquids on Fridays. She told me it "flushes out her system"! LOL

I think on the 5 day pouch test...it's liquids first thee days then mushy foods after that. Some say it's going back to basics. It doesn't "re shrink your pouch either"...but if you are only drinking liquids for a few days your pouch may feel different. I don't know, if I only drank protein drinks for awhile my pouch gets grouchy...and that's a fact!!

You can google it and read all about it, but you need not worry about it at this point. . .  Debbie made a valid point in her post. . .

My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . .  It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . .  Laureen

Talking about feeling like a failure made me think about a dear friend who just spent the night here on her way to another state. Haven't seen her and her husband in about 10 years, and only a handful of times before that since they moved out of Jersey about 20 years ago....anywhoo - we were talking about how passionate and idealistic we were about child raising when we fist met and both had little ones - both of us got in the very religious homeschool movement - and talk about feeling like a failure! You know there's alway someone out there whose "goats produce way more milk than yours" - get my drift? We both had some laughs over all our perceived failures, and the bottom line: it ain't for me and that's okay.
Find what works for you and stick to it. Chuck what doesn't work for you - no matter how many tout it and praise it. If it don't work for you - oh well. This is why I originally went with the RNY surgery - after 40 years of being on every diet in the world I finally found something that worked!

So yeah - if the 5 day pouch thing works for you, GREAT! But if it doesn't - okay, let's work on finding something else that does! But whatever you find, it's okay!

Cindy,
haven't even looked it up yet, but I decided that I didn't want to do liquids and mushy foods thing yet...
I tend to take what you guys say to heart, you know what I mean?

As for letting people make you feel like a failure, you know what? I worked as an intern in a nursing home. Its sad, but time is a great leveler. Whatever you have or have not achieved, you just can't take it with you. And it doesn't prevent anyone having to wipe your butt if you can't do it yourself by then...be you president or grocery bagger.

Not the 5 day pouch test, but I did read an atricle entitled 'pouch rules for dummies'. I believe it was written by an MD here in San Diego. I think it might be considered on the fringe, but it is an interesting read. I would be interested in your responses to this technique. Maybe this is old news to some.

Heather! That is an awesome find. I especially did not know about the water-loading and the effect of artificial sweeteners on appetite.
Thank you so much for sharing

Hey Heather - I just want to comment on your avatar pic - it is beautiful and one of my favorite flowers - they're really hard to kill! I love my gardens, but have a "black" thumb - these are the ones that truly just grow on their own without much care!
