New to this forum - Doing Fine 3 mo. Post-op
I wondered where the rest of you old geezers were? Found you! I've been over on the Sleeve Forum for a while and just wandered around to this one - you know how we seniors are in our wandering.... So, I'm 65, 3 mos. post-op and down 80+ lbs. (includes 24 pre-op loss). But better than the weight loss is the other losses - I've lost diabetes, lost sleep apnea, lost high blood pressure and lost muscle soreness. I walk 2.5 miles daily w/out exception, hit the gym for strength training 3 days per week, and I feel better than I have in 15 years, although I was a pretty active fat guy, even at 425 lbs. Tomorrow I've got a date with my daughter to go hit golf balls and I can't wait to WALK the golf course this season. Of course, w/ my reduced man-boobs, I'll have to adjust my swing.... Question: Are we 50+ folks as sensetive about who we tell about this surgery thing as the younger set seems to be. I couldn't have done this w/out everyone who loves me knowing about it - their wise pre-op counsel gave me support and their collective pride is helping the push the wave I'm riding. Just wondering. So last week, my 4-year-old grandson ran up to my belly and gave me a hug, saying, "Pop-Pop, you're shrinking!" And when I asked his 2 year old sister if she knew why I was getting smaller, she said, "Cuz you had skergery, right, Pop-pop." Talk about your support groups. Hello all.
Hi ... I'm guessing your name is John? ... or should we call you Pop-Pop?
I don't know about others, but I was quite open sharing my pre-op news about the surgery with most friends and family, and most were very supportive ... well, my mom kept telling me how I was going to gain it all back.
I had to laugh about the man-boobs ... my brother has those, but I think in a way they're genetic because my dad had them too. Both are big guys; my dad was overweight as he got older ... probably too much beer. My brother struggles with his weight and probably is bordering on obese right now.
Welcome to the group. We're a good bunch and we always welcome another brother to the fold.

Welcome John,
Your granddaughter is adorable. We have a great support group and terrific bunch of people on OFF. I told anyone who mattered about my surgery. I had no negative things said to me. Everyone was very supportive. Of course, at our age, everyone knows it's been a life long struggle for us. I wish you continued success.

Pop-Pop, hello and welcome to the forum! You are so funny. You'll be a great addition here, hope you stay with us.
80lbs! Good for you! You sound happier, too.
Oh a dear friend outed me on line by accident and it brought her to tears. I didn't mind at all. In fact, if I do wind up a skinny minnie I'll gladly share how I got there.
Relax! you are among peers. We all share your sorrows and joys.

Hello Pop-Pop. I just came back here myself and am looking forward to getting to know everyone and getting the support.
My grandchildren are about the same age, roughly. It's a fun age to have conversations with them.
I told everyone that cared about me about my surgery. I only had two people try to discourage me from it, and they were told up front I owuld not accept their negativity.
Nice to meet you.
Trish

Seek always to do some good, somewhere. Every man has to seek in his own way to realize his true worth. You must give some time to your fellow man. For remember, you don't live in a world all your own. Your brothers are here too.

From one old geezer to another, I was glad to see your post. Here I thought I was the only one who was over 60 and just now having my surgery. I get my sleeve 2/28/11. I am 63 and a grandmother of eight from 17 to 5. I've been lurking here for a while and love all the support and encouragement that is so feely given. I am getting very anxious to be on the loser's bench. Congratulations on your success - 80+ lbs is fantastic.

Welcome John to OFF.
I am a newbie here myself but have been on the PA forum for over a year. Congratulations on your successing so far. I have no doubt many more good days are headed your way. I was very open about my surgery because I took a whole year to make my decision. I was just about 53 when I had it. Because of my openness and example my 55 year old sister will be having LAP RNY in a few months. I did not get any negative comments from my friends and if others had anything to say behind my back I don't care. This is the greatest gift that I have given to myself and I know that I would not have been ready for it when I was younger. So glad that I am here and looking forward to getting to know you. Take care.
