Skin tearing.. it ain't pretty
It's been a long time since I had skin tears.. but boy, I've got them now.
About a month ago, I had a dog 'try to tell me to pet him'... and tore a spot about an inch square on my arm. It still is scabbing. I had a bandaid on it and when I went to take it off today... I've not got an inch long tear again.
Any ideas?

Ouch!
Don't use any tapes. I would get some gauze that is non sticking (it is impregnated with something that keeps it from sticking. DO Not get Telfa! that sticks horribly when it gets dry. get some kerlix or kling. wrap that around the impregnated gauze and put tape ONLY on the kerlix/kling. do not put tape on your skin. Don't wrap so tightly that you cut off circulation, but snug enough to stay in place. then wear something with long sleeves to keep it protected. Change it after you shower and it gets wet.
Hope that helps!

There's something called Tegaderm that you can get at the drugstore. It's a clear film that you put over the area and leave on. It breathes, but doesn't come off with water and will help prevent the skin again. Over time it loosens and falls off. (The Tegaderm, not the skin....) If the area still isn't healed when the film falls off, put on a fresh one.
I've used it on skin tears before and it works well.
Worth a try.
