Protein
HI Cierra,
I had RNY almost 6 years ago. Can't believe it's been that long. I well remember how difficult those first few weeks were. I figured I had enough fat stored to keep me alive at least 6 months if I did nothing but drink and take my pills!
The first 3 weeks were the hardest. I could not stand the smell of any kind of meat cooking, even sugarfree foods tasted super sweet, I thought I smelled "funky." I was at least 2-3 weeks post surgery before I could drink about 1/2 of a protein shake without getting sick. Now I still start my day with a protein shake each morning. It will take a while to find one that you like. Champion Pure Whey Chocolate is still my favorite
I believe there are some unflavored protein packets that can be added to plain water and clear broths. I've never tried them but they might be worth a try. I would like to reassure you that many of us have been where you are and that it will get better. Hang in there. It is so worth it. Welcome to the Over Fifty Forum!
Dyersburg, TN caught my attention. My Ferguson ancestors were from there about the time of the Civil War!Karen C
I couldn't tolerate any of the powdered proteins either. Just couldn't get past the smell, and I could even taste the unflavored ones. I used Protica for all my protein supplements. Just mixed the 3 ounces in about 6-8 ounces of lightly flavored liquid, like watered-down Crystal Light and hardly tasted it at all. I used orange Protica with the Sunrise Orange, Fruit Punch with the mixed fruit, etc.
There's also a 45 gm protein in 3 oz, not sure of the name brand, but I got it at the general nutrition store, and only used half at a time. Post RNY, 25 gm protein is pretty much all we can absorb at once. The taste was milder, and it saved a few bucks.
Best of luck. It gets easier.

Right now I'm like EAS Protein shake, has 17 gms and is low carb and I drink it on a lot of ice.
I remember early out I would take Adkins shake and mix it with decaf coffee and skim off the crap on the top, you can't get it too hot cuz it gets clumpy too so kinda luke warm. Good luck and hang in there, it will get better for you.
