Good morning one and all!

Ahhhh, nothing like a snowy day for cooking/eating comfort food. Fortunately, all of the junk food is outta here, so we had nice, healthy things all day. I've been cooking/freezing food in prep for not being able to do anything for the next couple of weeks. Yesterday was beef barley/veggie soup and beer bread. MMMMMMM

Here's the day:

latte

migas (Mexican bkfst dish with chopped meat, onions and eggs)

leftover "fried" rice, which didn't stay down any better than it did the night before. Why do I keep trying?

above mentioned beef barley soup

applesauce/LF granola

Good morning Susan!  I always look forward to your post and wanted to tell you that I cannot do rice either!  I tried a few times - way too many times, and now -- I won't touch it.  Have a good day and keep up the posting!

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. What ALWAYS gets me is spaghetti. Not rotini, tortellini, lasagna.....just those stupid strings of spaghetti. Feels like 5 lbs of rocks in my gut.

sounds like our "fussy pouches" are cousins.  Spaghetti is a no no - other pastas seem to be fine in small quatities.
Eggs are not good for me either - I can eat eggs in things, but not by themselves.
Good luck with your upcoming surgery!!!

Hi Susan,
I can NOT do rice or spaghetti either!!! I keep trying and they keep being  big lumps that hurt in my belly.

So what do I do? I dip french bread or Italian Bread in the spaghetti sauce.... hmmm....wonder why I can't get that regain gone.

Good Morning Susan

I have been at a retreat since Friday afternoon and not been in control of what was served.  I could only manage portions and say no to dessert.  As a result I put back a couple of the pounds I lost on the 5 day pt.  I have a little swelling so some of it is fluid but not all I am sure.

Yesterday I had

Breakfast -  scrambled eggs, lean sausage, and fruit
Lunch - (Post retreat)  garden tomato soup and 1/2 turkey and cheddar sandwich
Dinner - oven roasted chicken on sandwich round.

While I was on the 5 DPT the swelling in my legs was less than it has ever been since getting the DVT.  So with that in mind and the couple of pounds I picked up over the weekend I have decided that today I will do liquid protein only.  I am thinking I might do this every couple of weeks and see if it helps the edema.

Susan good luck on your surgery.  I'll be thinking of you with healing thoughts and envy.

I've been substituting pearled barley in all my rice dishes.  As long as I make sure it's well cooked, I have no problem with it.  SO much better for us, and I think it has better flavor, too.

I even tried it in cabbage rolls.  Yummmm.

I have the same problem eating spaghetti.  Every time I eat it I get the foamies.  After almost 5 years.

Swinging chickens here that your surgery goes well.  I get my foot done Jan. 20.

I'm liking the barley, too. Never thought to try it something like cabbage rolls.....make them a little more
substantial, I would think.

We'll have to keep track of each other with these medical "adventures" of ours. Who's taking you to and from the hosp? Are they going to stay with you for a while?

hi everyone

my shi******king and im real low in spirit about that.  i just cant seem to control
anything lately, and my eating has been a casualty as well.  i have successfully
cut back on the drinking when i go out though, so that is one positive thing.  i will
have one drink but then i switch to diet tonic and a little juice.

so far today ive been fine, but i need to get a handle on my night time munching.

today i had plain oatmeal with cheese to boost the protein a bit.
coffee x 4
lite yogurt and small  fresh fruit cup as snack
lunch was small salad, and i found a new WW fresh  not frozen mac and cheese in the store
was good and had decent amount of protein

now i need to stay strong the rest of the day.

hugs to all, Jacki

Rice and any sort of pasta seem to swell up so - nope, won't eat them. I substitute veggies with meat sauce instead of pasta when I get an "Italian" urge.

Remember - better living through chemistry. Best wishes to you and Candy too.
