Hello.  I had my surgery 2 months ago today...1 Nov.

Everything has been good, but my stalls have been 2 long ones already.  Starting weight was 248 (true starting weight) but I lost 8lbs on my "waiting diet".  Lost from 240 to 231 on my 2 week liquid pre-op.  Since surgery, 2 months ago today, I have lost 25 lbs.  Is this normal, to have such a slow weight loss after surgery for someone who is 56 yrs old.

I am exercising, all my H2O, exercising, protein, exercise...fustrated.  This morning when I go and weigh, I have gained a pound.  I know that is not possible, but it sure plays mindgames with you to be so diligent and have only 25 lb loss in 2 months where others have lost that much in 2 weeks.

I FEEL better, am really excited and realize I need to be grateful for what I HAVE accomplished, but is this normal???

I feel nothing when I eat...I have not felt full at all (or hungry for that matter)...I have no fullness, pain, like NOTHING in the way of "sensations" to help me gauge.

Do you feel that 25 lbs in the first 8 weeks pre-op is too slow a weight loss???  I so want to be successful at this!!!  Thanks for your help...I had found the RNY board and the Light Weight board and they both help, but I think those of us over 50 have very different journeys.
Happy New Year everyone!

Good Morning and Happy New Year to you too!
Absolutely, you are doing wonderfully!  Remember you are a "light weight" and as thus will lose weight a tad slower perhaps.  Every persons journey is different.  I had a lot more to lose then you, but I still think 25 lbs in 2 months is great!  At first your new "tummy" is getting used to things and it takes time, actually a slower weight loss is generally a good thing!  As I recall I lost 100# in 6 months, that averages out to 16 lbs a month, so you are not far off my rate!  of course some months more some months less.  as for gaining a lb. don't worry and obsess about it.  It will fall off. Just keep doing what you are doing, with all the exercise you are building muscle too don't forget and that weighs more than fat AND is better for you.   The more muscle, the more burn off you will get!
I started my journey 5 years ago at age 53, lost 165lbs and have now regained some.  OFF it comes this year.  Going back to basics just like you are doing!  Feel free to ask away, we over 50 group are not shy about almost any subject, and all have a wealth of knowledge to share with anyone, just ask us!  LOL

Thank you so much for your response Debbie.  I just felt like 2 stalls in 2 months is TOO much!!!  I can deal with 1/2 lb at a time...but days without a loss really make the struggle difficut.

I know I have less total to loose than a lot of folks, but I guess I just needed to hear your thoughts.

Happy New Year!!!

GREAT to know...thanks so much!

Is there anything special I need to do to "join" this forum????
Can you tell I am still kinda new at this???

I want a friendly, supportive forum.  I have found this one and the Light Weight one to be the most "supportive"...some of the others are very informative but , well not as cozy and warm as these two are.  At least that is my opinion.

thanks again, and Happy New Year to all my friends.  May 2011 bring nothing but goodness and great health!

Welcome to the Over 50 Forum Koa... just jump in with both feet. It's been 3 years since I had my surgery but I remember the frustration with stalls. I had it all figured out in my datebook how much I needed to lose each week to reach goal and my body had it's own ideas. Suffice it to say that I did lose 120 or so pounds and I'm very happy with my results even though I never did get all the way down to where I wanted to be. I do still have the ability to use my RNY to lose more weight... but it is my choice to be happy where I am right now and not beat myself up about not being a better loser. You will like this group of mostly women. They are supportive and warm- we all welcome you here. Happy New Year back at ya!

Welcome to the Over Fifty Forum! Those stalls are so hard. I remember too. Even tho it is so hard to do if you can manage to not weigh EVERY day it does help. Even every other day or twice a week would help you in your daily frustrations. If you are doing what you need to do it will come off in due time. Make sure you are eating enough. I know that sounds strange but you can actually slow down your weight loss if you don't get in enough protein and good healthy calories. By clicking "send" on your post you have become a member of our little group. I think you'll like it here!
