It's Thursday - already. What are you up to?

I am working as usual.

One really good thing in my life.  My son quit his job about 3 months ago to start his own franchise of a trucking company out of New Jersey.  To make it work, he has to have owner/operators in the Dallas area.  When he started, he set his goal to have seven drivers signed on by the end of the year.  Yesterday..... DRIVER NUMBER SEVEN!!!  I am so proud to see my son set lofty goals, and then achieve them.  He has so much work right now that he actually had to turn some loads away because his drivers were too busy.  His new goal is ten drivers by February 1st.  Hope he hits it.  At his previous job he was doing well for a high school dropout with a GED.  Making near $40K.  Now he gets paid on commission by the loads he sends out with the drivers.  He is averaging almost $2K per week right now.  And that is after office and business expenses.  I am so proud of him.

My daughter is getting ready to go back into the job market.  She is looking for a teaching job in a decent school district.  I helped her get her resume together.  Just a little tweaking.  She really did a good job with it.

Lastly, my grandkids love Skype.  I woke up yesterday afternoon to my grandkids looking at me through the computer.  It is great.

And on a serious note, I ask prayers for the family of an Arlington, Texas police woman, Jillian Smith.  She was a rookie, two weeks on the force.  There was a domestic disturbance, and the husband had left.  So Officer Smith was sent by herself to take a statement.  While she was there, the husband returned with a gun and opened fire.  Officer Smith apparently dove to cover the 11 year old daughter.  This cost Officer Smith her life, but saved the child.  The husband shot his wife and then himself.  So, prayers for the little girl too, as she has to carry on her life.

Sorry for the downer, but I had to mention what a hero Officer Smith was.

Thank a policeman when you see him.  And have a good day.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!

Oh how sad for that police officer. I always thank police, rescue, and fireman for their service. Not enough pay, respect, and fire power for their work.
Glad your son is doing well.
I am sober 57 days and proud of me. Much warmer here today, happy for this. Hubby and I have a stomach thing going on, hope it doesn't develop into the flu or the trots.
Prayers to all, especially Bev and Margo and Janet.

Good mornin' ya'll.
Congrats to the children. Don't we feel soooo good when they do good. Makes you forget all the little things you butted heads over.
Prayers for all police officers, rescue personnel and fire men. They
REALLY do sacrifice for us.
Sobriety -whoo hoo!! I can't go back on my iPad to remind me how many days!
I've been up since 3AM with chills. 4 blankets, all fans off, heat on 80!! My poor DH. My temp has now gone from 103.3 to 101.3. Band won't let a pill through so I had to crush a Motrin. Yuchchchch! Not sure what's up, but I'll call my doc at 8:30.
My DIL and kids made it home (NC) safe from MD. Our daughter and her family made it home (OR) safe from FL. All my chicks are safe!!
Everyone have a fantabulous day and holiday weekend!!

You have chills and I have the sweats. Almost feels like menopause for me....too hot with rivers of sweat down my spine. Glad you calling your doc, that is a high fever for us. Glad your chicks are safe. We love Camp Leujene (sp) one of our favorite bases campgrounds.
Feel better.......me too.

When we were trailering we stayed their often. So did my parents. Our son and his family drag their trailer over there for a couple weeks in summer!

You have chills, Monica has the sweats, I have both. I have been trying to get off hormones ... I've been on HRT for five years and decided to get off them this year because ... well, five years is too long and they're too expensive on my current drug plan. So I run hot and cold.

Hi Eileen, Monica and Grammylew,
I had surgical menopause back in 2001 when I had a hysterectomy for cancer removal.  They don't want people with cancer to take hormones because it can feed cancer.  My gynecologist recommended over the counter stuff.  Evening Primrose Oil, Vitamin E and Estroven (a soy based menopause medication).   The Estroven is a little expensive but the Evening Primrose Oil and the Vitamin E (both come in gel tab) are in the Vitamin aisle and aren't too expensive.  The combo of the three seemed to keep my menopausal symptoms at bay.  I don't take anything now because it is very infrequent.  But my being cold is from my WLS so I don't know if this will help if it's not menopause symptoms.
Good luck,
Bev

Good Morning George, Monica, Janet, Grammylew and those yet to come

Been a busy week at work, it having been shortened by one day more than we were supposed to have off, due to the snow storm we had here the day after Christmas, it was beautiful though and I do love the snow, as long as it is just not the little messy kind (5 inches or less). . .  anyway, George, happy to read about your son's venture into business and creating a goal and meeting it, hey if he ever needs a good office manager down the road (lol), I do live in NJ. . .  anyway, very sad about the young police officer and that poor little girl, I will be thinking and praying for them, as well as Margo on the loss of her dear furfaced baby.

So last night Roxie had her yearly visit with this wonderful vet, who makes home visits, it worked really well and Roxie took it all in stride, only showed her teeth once, when the vet took blood for heartworm test, but very minimal and stopped as soon as I told her that was not allowed.. .  she continues to be a delightful part of my everyday living and I am thankful each day to have her, even as I still miss my sweet Dillinger, who whispered in God's ear and said, bring my Mom a good companion, not quite like me, but a good one and so Roxie came to be. . .

Ok, so we are about to begin a new year and for those struggling with food issues and I, for one, have had my share, let's start off this new year with a recommitment to doing what works, so that we can enjoy the life we now have as a result of having chosen this path.

My commitment to myself is this, I will measure out and only eat the portion sizes I know are in my best interest, eat only on schedule and I will make healthy choices in what I eat and I will exercise and continue to be a part of support, and when I fall, I will get right back up and leave the guilt for being less than perfect behind me, because in the scheme of it all, guilt only ties me to bad behavior and continues the cycle of what does not work, however, I will not use that as an excuse either. . .

In case I am not here tomorrow, I wish each and every one of you the safest and Happiest of New Year's!!!

Peace and Strength to all, Laureen
