I need words of something... advice, experience, charades maybe? Sounds like??

Lately, I've been waking up in the middle of the night with my pouch (now a full blown stomach I'm sure) screaming at me like Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors.. FEED ME!!

It's like really painful... like you can 'feel' stomach acid.  Not gerd.  I can get up and get a glass of milk or a small piece of toast and it immediately goes away.

I don't like this middle-of-the-night-have-to-get-up-and-eat thing.

Yesterday I had my usual coffee, another cup at work.. and for lunch a bowl of etoufee, came home and had a pimento cheese sandwich and a gingersnap and went to bed about 8.

Now it's almost 2 a.m.  After my little piece of toast and my 1/2 glass of milk, Seymour is apparently a happy camper.  I'm going back to bed.

Any idea why I'm doing this?

  Janet,
Any other symptoms...???  sweating, shakes, nausea?

WHen I wake up its usually low blood sugar, which is why you feel better after eating.  Dehydration will give you tummy aches too.  Are you eating enough protein?

My drs. have me eating 6 small meals a day and one with protein is right before bed.

Hope you figure this out.  GOOD luck and keep us posted.

I would try eating something with protein @ a 1/2 hr before bed. Also make sure enough water swallowed during the day. Good luck, waking up in the middle of night is not fun.

i agree-protein and water both need to be upped-but the acid feel makes me wonder if some spice or something isn't bothering seymour.....

also-habits set in too easily--if it is waking you it is honest but if you're waking up anyhow-habit...make sense?
hugs.....

um...nother thought--any stress in your life????????? sorry......big big hugs sista!

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

Janet, I think you were just hungry, it had been 6 hours from you last eating and as we get older it seems like the topic of discussion at work with the ladies is who got the most sleep.
Maybe the gingersnap cause a hypoglycemic event. For tonight just try protein only for your 8pm snack and see if you sleep longer or without pouchy waking you up.

Janet,

With so little food during the day (no mention of water?) you must have been hungry!! plus thirsty and perhaps a wee bit hypoglycemic.

Take care of yourself please. Your body needs fuel to stay healthy. With all the stress, you don't need to fall down go boom.

I have been having pouch troubles lately as well.  Mine is dry heaves, belching, pre-foamies, hick-uping.  I narrowed it down to my pouch being sick of eating salad everyday.  I really love my lettuce mixtures, but stewie doesn't.  I started chewing s/f peppermint gum right after the meal.  I have to control how much gum I use, its an addiction for me.  Since I started chewing the gum, I haven't woke up in the middle of the night with that gastly sick feeling.

Some days your the dog and some days your the hydrant.

Janet is this ALL that you had to eat all day?? If it is then your body is trying to tell you that you NEED more!!! Also you need to be drinking more than just coffee everyday. Coffee is a dehydrator. So try eating more protein and drinking water and see if that helps your Seymour and sleeping through the night. :-)

Sure sounds like excess stomach acid; could it be the beginnings of an ulcer? I don't have a clue. I've always been a middle of the night eater so I don't want you to adopt my habit. It's a hard one to deal with and one thing tends to lead to another and another and another. Now if you can hold it to that little piece of toast and small glass of milk do so!

Take a priolosec every midmorning.  What it sounds like is your pouch or non-pouch part is putting out a little extra acid.  Get the generic prilosec and take it midmorning and you wont' wake up with the burning.  I still have a lot of acid, not dangerously high levels, but enough to wake me up and make me say, what's up with this.  So, the doctor moved my prilosec up to midmorning.  Works like a charm.  The consequence of not getting rid of the acid is an eventual irritation to the lining or, like me, a freakin' hole or two.  So, treat it aggressively.  After a few weeks of prilosec, stop taking it and see what's up.  If the pain comes back, you know it's acid.  Avoid the tagment and stuff like that because they only treat the acid that is there, you want to stop the production of the excess acid.
