Welcome Jacqueline! I had my RNY when I was 55 almost 6 years ago. I have a friend who had to have her band removed because of infection problems. She is getting ready to have a RNY soon also. You've found a great forum. Hang around and get to know us and let us get to know you. I would encourage you to read profiles. I haven't updated mine in several years but kept it pretty closely for several years.

i am curious as to why you are having a revision done? it's interesting to read everyone's stories...please do not compare your own results tho...askaren said, get acquainted stick around we are a great group and there are banders here as well......
oh- i was 50 when i had my surgery-i chose RNY because i wanted that LIMIT from sugar and carbs....when i let it work it does...when i forget whose in charge i have regain or slight dumping....as in any of the surgeries it was on my stomach not my head or emotions...i stress or boredom eat.....
I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

I know 4 ladies, all over the age of 50 who have had their bands removed and have been revised to RNY. All are doing well..you may have malabsorption issues, but, my best advice....LISTEN to your dr. and your NUT and follow their rules.
Take your vitamins and eat properly. You are on your way to feeling better. Good luck and keep visiting us.

Jacqueline, welcome. I had my Rny a few years back and haven't regretted a day of it. Not to say it has been a walk in the park, cause, for me, it hasn't; however, I'd do it all over again. Most of us lose our weight quickly. The RNY doesn't allow for a lot of eating nor does it allow for the wrong kinds of eating. I still cannot eat sugar, or pork, or really dense meats. I still eat out of a small plate and never have been able to eat an entire happy meal burger. Anyway, good luck and hang around. You will get just about any question you might have answered here and some you didn't know needed answering. Most of the gals here are helpful without judgment. Those who are somewhat judgemental, well, you just learn to bypass them. Get it, bypass?
Anyway, welcome and, again, goodluck.

Margo why am I having a revision. Long story but I had my lapband surgery in Aug. 2008. I lost 12 lbs the first month. Then would lose a lb and gain a lb, could not get restriction. Come to find out they had punctured my port with a fill and I was not holding any fluid, but it took the ARNP 7 months to finally decide that something must be wrong. So in June the following year I had that replaced and I also changed doctors, due to the rudeness of my first surgeon. With very hard work I managed to lose around 60-65 lbs, but then starting having problems and had to have my band unfilled, and gained 30 lbs back. Long story short, I have done everything there is to do and I cannot lose weight with the band. I can say it has taught me how to eat and has prepared me for the RNY, but would I recommend it to anyone? Nope not at all. I have wasted two years with it and could have been at goal.

If you follow your doctor's eating rules you should succeed.
Stay away from sweets and carbs. Quit grazing if you are a grazer.
This surgery is not a quick fix by any means. If you eat more then the amount allowed you will gain your weight back. If you don't exercise you will not keep it off either.
You are the one in control....most hunger is head hunger. Don't give in. Nothing tastes as good as thin feels!
I wish you the very best. I hope you keep in touch and post often. We will support you and try to be as helpful as possible.
Good luck....hugs.....connie d
