regain after bypass tips

My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . . It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . . Laureen

Diets don't work so I suggest to practice Mindful Eating. Keep posting here, you will get support on line. You can get those 50 pounds off just do it slowly and stay off the scale. Exercise, walking is free...you don't have to go to the gym.
Tips:
Start journeying today. Write down exactly what you ate, how hungry you were b/4 you started to eat and how full you were after.
Drink water, flush your system out.
Are you eating sugar? If you are then detox your body first and do this only 3 days...you can do this 3 days...drink low carb protein drinks and if you really have to eat because you are starving eat a "normal" dinner of chicken or steak with fresh veggies...you only have to do this for 3 days.
Don't beat yourself up, just start over. It's all about life and somehow you probably slipped back into old eating habits. No big deal. You can start over plus you have a tool. Take it out of the shed and use it. You are a success and not a failure. You are not alone. Hang in there. When we fall, we pick ourselves back up and hopefully no one saw you fall...but when you gain weight...everyone sees. Sigh...that's life but we still get back on track. Hugs Debbie
I have had a regain of 40 pounds and have been sooo depressed over it. Feelinglike a failure, not wanting to go out , dont want people to see. But I had an epiphany the other day. Im still 110 pounds down from my starting weght. I am still a success. So I wear an 18..there was a day I would have given anything to waer that size.
I still have the tool,,,and I still know the rules. So, I started following them again about a week ago. To date I have lost 4.8 pounds. I was elated when i saw that new number, you would had thought I had lost 20 pounds!! But I am determined to take this off..one pound, one meal, one day at a time. After all, thats how it came on.
I have come back here to OH to read and post for the support like I used to. Its helping.
I hang out at the Graduates forum a lot now, there are several of us over there fighting the regain battle. I come to this board to read and get inspiration from my old WLS friends.
Its a daily struggle, especially at our age when it doesnt come off as fast..but it will come off. Journal, water, protein, move. Thats the basics right there.
We can do it,,and we will!

Hang in there, 40 pounds will come off in time. You are a success. Times like this we do have to remember what size we use to be and a size 18 is just fine...for now. Your size will decrease in time and we have to just practice Mindful Eating, learn why we reach for foods and to know that no food will make us happy.
My hubby laughed the other day when I asked for a hug...I told him a hug would do me just fine right then instead of some homemade cookies that were hanging around. I got my hug then went for a walk with a smile on my face.
Yep Betsy we can get that weight off, no biggie and we should not stress about food. Just be mindful of our choices, we will prevail and get to the size we want to be...in time. Regardless, life goes and we will journal, move and get protein in...drink lots of water too! Hugs Debbie
I have been stressing so much about the size i am I think, cause I dont have anything in the closet that really fits well now. So, I bought a pattern and some fabric and gonna make a couple outfits for church that make me feel pretty. That will make a difference I think. I never feel pretty now that I have gained,,so Im gonna work on that too. Maybe Im vain, but I do have a husband that is 16 years younger than myself so I am very concious of how I look. Is that a good or bad thing?? LOL Of course he is one of those guys that think their wife is beautiful at any size. We have been married for 23 years next month,,so he knew me both ways.
Have an awesome day! Im gonna drink some water and dig out that Leslie Sansone dvd..walk away some pounds. :)
Blessings
Betsy

I also come here and a couple of other sites to get support and motivation. I have to stay focused. I don't think about food all the time but at meal time I try to stay on track and make wise decisions. Losing the regain is going slowly for me but the scale is moving downward. I have lost about 15 pounds since September with little ups and downs. I do fluxuate and plateau but I think I am headed in the right general direction. I hope to have all the regain and then some gone by summer.
You know what your doctor told you to do after surgery. You just have to do it. We had surgery on our stomachs not our brains. I know the first year it seemed like the brain had undergone surgery as well. At least for me it did. I had no cravings, no emotional eating. I think that was because the weight was coming off so fast that I was on an emotional high. I had so many WOW moments that motivation was easily maintained. It is just more difficult now because the weight loss slows down or even stops before final goal. We are not getting the feedback we were as people become familiar with our new selves.
You can do this. Just take those baby steps to getting back in the habit of doing good things for your body. Of course that means exercise as well. Another thing I am not real fond of. Good luck. Keep posting. Susan does a what are you eating post everyday. Try posting there to keep your food on track and post on the what's happening thread for motivation.
We are here for you
Get back to basics. Start measuring your food and keeping a log to get back on track. Start eating like you were when you were 2 months post op. The first few days may me tough if you've got a carb monkey on your back and your portions have become distorted, but you can get through it. Also don't fall into a repetition mode. Vary your diet as much as possible avoiding White Carbs such as bread, potato, pasta, rice and junk food. Stick with the rainbow of veggies, limit fruit and if you find yourself hungry after a meal ... load up on Jello Gelatin to satisfy your pouch. Make sure your eating every 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Allowing to much time to pass between meals can leave you hungry and increase portion size. Recommit to yourself and the scale will start to move for you. Become accountable to yourself from this day forward.
