What's new Thursday, Veteran's Day?

Hi Peg,

We had a replica of the Wall here on Veteran's Day a few years ago. It was so nicely done. I was amazed that we could "feel" the names on it. Even tho it was much smaller than the real thing it was still so sobering.  For some reason the Korean Memorial is the one that seemed to affect me the most. Bigger than life soldiers in full combat gear complete with "tarps" to ward off the rain" marching across the terrain. What an impact it had on me. Thank your "Honeyman" for me!

Hi Karen
We had Remembrance Day here today with everyone wearing a poppy  -  remember In Flanders Fields?  A gathering was held at the school I work at and we sang O Canada and watched some videos of young men and women who have been killed in our peace-keeping missions as well as in the second world war and the first.  Very moving.   What was also very moving was the number of young men and women who showed up to pay homage to those heroes.
We are not a country that goes easily into war, but we believe in supporting our troops.
It is a beautiful day here  -  warm and sunny now even though I had to scrape a light frost off my car window at 7:30 this morning.  I still can't believe how warm it is for a day in the middle of November  -  can't hold on for much more!
Everyone have a great day.

My son who is now a middle school history teacher came home in about 8th grade with a copy of "In Flanders Field". It affected him deeply and still does.

When I visit Civil War cemeteries which are often at the location of battles in our War Between the States row after row after row of perfectly straight markers. . . At Gettysburg one marker read " 428 unknown Union soldiers". . . and I'm sure countless others, Union and Confederate, in unmarked graves on battlefields across our North and South. . . and across the seas.

I often wonder if I would be here had any one of the 3 great-grandfathers of mine who fought in the Civil War not returned? Two fought for the south and one for the north. The one who fought for the north was the only one married at the time. He had fathered the child who would be my great grandmotheer before he went to war. He returned but died within 2 years. I have wondered if it was of war related causes.

These are the kinds of things that my ever busy mind thinks about at night time!

Hi Karen and my OFF family:

I'm late getting on here. My Internet and cable have been out the past few days; long story, won't get into it. So I have to wait until I get into work. I can't even try to piggyback onto someone else's network. Oh well.

I had to get up earlier than usual this morning for an MRI and X-rays on my back. Boy, this is going to be an expensive week. I had to pay for them out of pocket because I haven't met my deductible yet. In Grand Rapids, all X-rays and MRIs and bloodwork and that stuff was paid 100%. This study cost me $325. Plus the $264 I had to pay Tuesday at the pain clinic for next week's shot. I get paid tomorrow and the check is almost gone. Fortunately, it seems I can run almost a month on a tank of gas ... if I don't go anywhere but up and back to work. And who can afford to go anywhere?

Well, back to work. My stories are in. Have a good day.
